Default Realistic RW Targets

I think it's pretty obvious that the biggest hole on this team is a consistent RW to play on the 2nd line. Frolik has lost a step it seems, and I don't think Mangi is quite that player. Are there other potential answers on the farm? Can Dube fill that spot?

Who are the realistic targets available?

Hall would be ideal, but his acquisition cost, plus the cap it would cost to keep him and make the acquisition cost worth it, would be crazy.

Maybe Kreider can get pulled out of NYC? Another UFA, but wouldn't be as expensive to retain as Hall. NY could use some veteran defensive help.

Foligno might be a decent target out of Columbus who could use some backend experience. And it might not cost enough to make it necessary to keeping him at the end of his contract.

Could the Zucker deal be revisited? I'm sure it's still an ongoing negotiation, but Frolik's value has dropped since then.

Saad? Year 5 of 6 of his contract and Chicago is in perpetual cap hell, it'll be tough to retain him. Brodie could be a valuable upgrade for them on D.

Carter? His salary isn't terrible to absorb and LA needs to rebuild. He's got 2 years left and is past his prime, but I think he could still get it done with either of our top 2 lines. He's also the only player on this list that's actually right-handed.

Another question is what are we willing to pay? Or what are we willing to lose off the roster/asset list in order to fill this gap and possibly get this team to championship calibre? I would be okay with losing a 1st, Brodie/Hamonic (preferably Brodie IMO, although he's been one of my favorite Flames in his time here), some of our 2nd tier prospects like Dube, Phillips, or Parsons. Obviously not all of them, but if some combo of those left for someone who could solidify that spot for the rest of our window that would be fine by me.

I'd like to see if the Wings would part with Bertuzzi, Athanasiou or Mantha.

i have no idea if he wants to come home. But say you speak to Hall and he’s willing to sign I could see a Gaudreau trade where we don’t take salary back just picks and prospects and then sign Hall.

Radulov with retained salary? Another grey beard but he is very consistent and has great underlying advanced stats his whole career. Might be cheaper than some of the younger guys. Not sure if Dallas would still be a seller though it looks like a good chunk of the west is hovering around .500 right now.

Radulov has a NMC, cant see him waiving to go to Calgary.

For me it is Chris Kreider. Big, physical winger with speed and scoring ability. That's assuming he would waive to come here........

If only we could have resigned Ferland during the Summer, or even Hathaway. Both of those players had skill, and toughness. They were the right age and the were perfect middle six forwards.

As I mentioned earlier on one of my rants during the washington game, it would be great to get Hall, but I retract the thought of giving up a core piece to do so. I'm sure Treliving is evaluating options daily.

I've been thinking about this scenario a lot lately. I think Johnny is better than Hall, but if we're conceivably losing him in two years, it's tough to imagine a better 'worst case scenario' than replacing him with an extended 29 year old former MVP.

When will people get over Ferland? Enough already.

He was only impactful with gaudreau and Monahan, and even then he was pretty hot and cold. Hathaway was a fine bottom liner.

I do hope mgmt makes a run at Hall if they have a plan to clear some cap.

Really? The biggest hole on this team is the entire center group. It is slow, soft, inconsistent; lacking elite talent, tenacity, leadership and compete level. I'd say good luck winning it all with Monahan, Backlund, Ryan and Jankowski as your C-core. Good luck.

I wonder with Tampa's cap situation going into next season if the Flames couldn't get Tyler Johnson to waive his NTC to move a bit closer to his hometown. He's a right handed shot who has experience at center, has been in the neighborhood of 50 points the past two seasons, is signed for a while at a pretty reasonable cap hit, and has a playoff PPG that's 15% above his regular season career PPG.

Only downsides would be that this trade would likely not happen in this season (off season deal) as Tampa has cup aspirations and a cap compliant team already, and Johnson is another smaller player.

Not sure if a package of 2nd + Jankowski would be palatable/enough (though Janko is doing wonders this year to completely crater his trade value).

I doubt Chicago would want Brodie as a rental, and as you say, they couldn't afford him after this season anyway.

I could see Sadd playing on a great shut down line.

if Chicago decided to move him, it would be to save cap space and they would want one of the young d-men.

Kyle Palmieri please. He would fit in great on the first or second line RW. And would be good on the PP.

I just hope it's not someone who is 29 or older.

The Flames generally have bad luck when they acquire people older than that.

With an added proper winger, Lindholm can be part of that group as well, if we want to. Having another winger that can slot into center would be a good idea too. Kreider I believe can play centre. So does Carter. Either way I don't look at the centre group as negatively as some.

Yeah, every player there other than Carter is Left-handed. There is a surprising shortage of decent true RW. That's partially why I started the thread. Hoping people who have been playing closer attention could maybe ID some players that aren't as known.

Has he ever played RW? He shoots left and is playing LW with Chytil(C) and Buchnevich(RW) on what looks like the 3rd line.
