This is 2019. There is nothing wrong with one man boarding another man.

So dumb they didn't call a 5 minute major.

Especially given the new rules:
Quote:
The NHL will also begin allowing the on-ice referees to review their own work on major penalties (non-fighting majors), match penalties and double minors for high sticking.

For major and match penalties, the referee who made the call will be required to review it using the monitor or tablet at the scorer's table. He will have the discretion to either confirm his call or reduce it to a minor penalty.
No reason not to call it a 5 minute major initially when there's a dangerous looking boarding penalty.

At the game last night watching the ref on the big screen at the end of the period I swore I read his lips say (his mic wasn't working) 5 minute major for boarding. So when the 3rd started I was surprised it was 2.

He couldn't figure out how to get the mic to work. Why would you think he would get the call right?

Penalties aren’t registered by the ref’s mic announcement.

The Flames goal was controversial and so I think this penalty being only 2 minutes is "justice" or "vindication"

My guess is $5000 fine. It should be a game or two but it won't.

I am glad that any suspension would benefit a divisional rival instead of the Flames...pretty big swing and a miss by the officials.

I thought it was the turning point in the game. Once Winnipeg kills the penalty Calgary became very passive.

I'm expecting Lowry to get at least a $5 fine and probably have to drink white milk instead of chocolate for maybe even the whole week!

It was a pretty ugly hit and I wonder if the official didn't want to make such a call ejecting a player because it was a winter classic game? I just don't understand how an official could think that was only worthy of 2 minutes. Player safety should always come before game management for these guys.

That hit should have been 5 and a game in every scenario.

Targeted the head and from behind.

Also was really annoying because it was so unnecessary. Only 2 seconds left in the period, no real reason to make that hit, and was clearly just a frustrated player doing something stupid. Just no respect for his fellow players at all.

Hopefully there is a suspension since that't the exact hit they should be trying to get rid of in the game.
