Happy trails and all the best, Curtis.
Worst trade Treliving ever made and it's not even close. Never, ever made sense.

Don't think there was any surprise. Thought they might have kept Rychel around though

Damn, would've qualified Rychel over Lomberg, and Foo (I understand they're doing the same thing they did with Vey)

He's not the biggest mistake on the list as that would be Mason McDonald in the 2nd round of the draft when Thatcher Demko was available. If Demko is in the Flames system the Flames are probably set for the future with a Rittich/Demko tandem. I would not want to be the scout(s) that won the argument to slot McDonald over Demko in their draft list order.

I can't tell if you are praising Tre or not.

Cause if that's the worst trade he ever made, he's doing a pretty good job.

You are ignoring development though. The Canucks have a history of developing their goalie prospects: Schneider, Markstrom, Demko.

But at the time, yes, Demko was considered the better draft prospect.

I think it was Tod Button who made that decision. Didn't he say they saw McDonald at an international tournament where he played well and that clinched it for them?

The worst trade Tre made was Bollig for a 3rd. At least Lazar still had some potential at the time of his acquisition. With Bollig, he acquired one of the worst players in the league.

Bit of both. Awful trade, but yeah, he hasn't had a lot of bad ones. Still, he basically gave away a second-round pick for the worst regular roster forward I've watched on the Flames. He was worse than Brouwer that year. And at least Bollig showed up in the playoffs, although that trade was terrible too.

I wonder if the door is truly closed on Lazar or if they would bring him back on a cheaper 2 way deal.

I'm sure the Flames are looking at some of the other teams' castoffs (defensemen in particular) to fill out the Stockton roster.

Thatcher Demko isn't anything special at this point - nearly 24 with 10 NHL games under his belt, and his NHL numbers are right next to Jon Gillies'.

We're not exactly talking Kidd vs Brodeur here.

Well that's more NHL games than MacDonald has AHL games.
We're not talking Kidd vs Brodeur but we're talking legitimate NHL prospect vs guy cut loose at 23. At his age and a handful of NHL games Demko is on the right track, MacDonald obviously not.

Treliving was only on the job a month so hard to fault him but it's a bad look that MacDonald and Hunter Smith are both gone after such a short amount of time. Another kick in the balls when Lazar is cut, a guy we traded a 2nd round pick for as well.

Foo is qualified just to retain his rights- he is signed to the KHL so you never know what could happen.

Rychel wasn't qualified because he had arbitration rights- tons of players like him available.
