PLAYERS TO WATCH
Flames - Mark Giordano

Giordano has goals in three straight games and the Norris Trophy talk hasn't quieted one bit as a result. In fact, the skipper's play is earning some national recognition, too, as 'Gio' was the subject of a passionate soliloquy by Don Cherry during Coach's Corner on Hockey Night in Canada. "He does everything," Cherry said. "He scores goals. He hits. He fights. He blocks shots. He got out of the way there so Smith could see it. He does everything. He's never, ever mentioned. I don't understand it. He is a tough guy and they're lucky to have him." ... Giordano, 35, has that many points (6G, 29A) in 32 games and is third among defencemen in league scoring.

Stars - Gavin Bayreuther

Bayreuther scored the game-tying goal the last time these teams met as part of his first-ever multi-point game at the NHL level. The 24-year-old is one of many Dallas defencemen summoned from the farm in the absence of their Top 4, and at one point was playing upwards of 20 minutes per game. More recently, he's had his ice time cut back (playing a season-low 13:08 on Saturday), but remains an offensive threat, even in a more limited role
Go Flames Go!

Lines should be coming fairly soon.

Seven Things to Watch for Tonight
  1. Mark Giordano is one goal from passing Calle Johansson and Andrei Markov in all time goals as a D man. Gio will move in 65th all time.
  2. Sean Monahan is one game winning goal from tying Joe Mullen and becoming 4th in Flames history.
  3. Mikael Backlund is one goal from tying Curtis Glencross and becoming 24th all time in Flames scoring.
  4. Elias Lindholm is one goal from tying Steve Konroyd, Frantisek Musil, Jay Bouwmeester, and Kris Versteeg. After 34 games Lindholm is already 149th all time in scoring as a Flame.
  5. David Rittich is one win from passing Dwayne Roloson and becoming 17th all time as a Calgary Flame.
  6. Bill Peters is one win from passing Don Hay in wins as a Flames coach.
  7. Sam Bennett is one point form a career 100.

With the hype building towards the Tampa game on Thursday, the Flames could easily get in trouble by looking past the game tonight. Hope Peters keeps them on task, Anaheim isn't giving them any breathing room and Dallas is going to be desperate to stay in the wildcard race

Hoping to see Smith today. I'd definitely prefer Rittich against Tampa.

Ha, this made me look up his HockeyDB profile. Which incidentally features an unnecessarily black-and-white photo despite having played in the NHL as late as 2012. Awesome!

A bit of a trap game. Dallas at home is a much better team than its overall record implies. They have very good forwards who can burn you. And Bishop can pull a good game out as well.

The Flames understandably played a bit of a coasting game in the last half against the Flyers. Hopefully Peters has addressed it.

It is kind of surprising to me - Dwayne Roloson is 46th all time in games played as a goalie in the NHL with 606.

DAL is another good team with excellent players. A big challenge for CGY especially on the road. CGY just needs to focus and play to their strengths and keep playing great.

Hey look, a scheduled LOSS for a team playing three games in four days.

Anyway, let's hope for the best, but it's painful losing a FIFTH straight game to Dallas. We haven't won against them since March 2017. 0-3-1 vs. Dallas as of late? Goodness.

I'd personally like to see Smith start this game just so Rittich rests and prepare for Thursday's game against Tampa.

Wow. Nichushkin has not been good in his return to North America.

Benn and Seguin seem to cut through the Flames D like a hot knife through butter at times. Hope they can contain them tonight.

Holy Moly at those first two. Markov was a big time point producing D for a lot of years. And Mullen... wow.

Jankowski, Quine and Czarnik had some great shifts last game. I wonder if they can string a bunch of great games together?

Assuming Czarnik is a placeholder and Neal will be in.

Or he's traded.

Either or.
