Trade (PIT - LAK): Hagelin for Pearson
https://www.tsn.ca/kings-trade-pears...elin-1.1209685
Didn't see a thread started on this.
Speedster who has failed in the western conference before for a former 24-goal scorer who has failed to live up to expectations.
Thoughts? I tend to think this is a win for Pittsburgh (got 4 years younger)

Meh
Kings still suck, that’s what matters.

As long as Pearson is fine, Pittsburgh turns out OK. But the Penguins get an extra 3 years of contract act obligations of a player who's not certain to be good.
This looks like a cap deal more than a player deal.

I feel like the Kings sold low on Pearson and this deal will likely be a win for the Penguins.

what's going on in Pittsburgh exactly??? haven't followed them much so far this year, but seem to be struggling quite heavily.
is it injuries, goaltending, big guys struggling, lack of scoring depth??

A nothing move for both teams. Pittsburgh is going to need a new coach soon the message has worn itself out.

The first domino for the Kings? If they're looking to shake things up I don't think this trade is it. Could just be the first move of many. I like this one for the Pens.

Matt Murray has struggled heavily. They still have a winning record, games in hand, and it's early in the season still.

Hagelin is such a weird player.
Hes a pace merchant and can be a very effective player but hes so streaky and he bounces around a lot.

Seemed to do just fine against us which is unfortunate but true.

Combination of poor defense and some leaky goal tending by my observation.
Malkin has been a little quiet over the past few games, but offense isn't the issue. Keeping the puck out of their own net appears to be.

Yep. He's almost been as bad as Mike Smith.

But of course he played lights out against the Flames.
Every goalie seems to stand on their head against Calgary. Coincidence? Or do we just have players with very poor shooting percentages?

To be fair, I’m pretty sure I could have played lights out against the Flames that night.

"With the #Penguins retaining 6.25% of Hagelin's contract, both clubs exchanged an equal $3.75M in cap dollars as a result of this trade, meaning no actual change to either teams overall salary cap for this season. "

Pearson has two more years left on his contract after this season. Hagelin is on his last year. Hagelin can still be dealt at the deadline. Hopefully the change of scenery helps Hagelin turn his game around to have a bit of value for a deadline trade.

The thing I don't get about this for the Kings is that they didn't really improve team speed. Hagelin is certainly very fast, but Pearson was fast too. I suppose that they may flip Hagelin at the deadline for picks and use the cap space in the off-season, but I don't think this deal will help them turn anything around this year.

May be they are not looking at turning things around this year, may be they are ever so subtly tanking? Getting that first over pick help fast track the retooling.
