Tough to count anything after 4-0 though IMO because they clearly quit after that and were making even worse decisions in a an Effort to get a goal.

1-0: Bad goal
2-0: Nice tip but Smith looked just lost postionally and waving at the first floater with his glove.
3-0: Can’t fault Smith for the 3 on 2 and letting the guy walk right up the middle but his rebound control was horrible all night
4-0: Horrible rebound on a weak shot.

So 2 soft goals and 2 that while not soft you hope your goalie could at least make a big save on one of them.

The rest of the second period looks a lot different if it’s 1-0 Pens instead of 4-0, so yeah I think a lot can be blamed on the goalie.

Defensive zone coverage needs to be blamed too and the team could help out the goalie but really outside of the 3-0 goal I didn’t hate how the Flames played in the first 21 minutes and it was 4-0.

Sure. They would have lost anyway. But smith is awful. We had no chance in the first with his performance.

Just history repeating as this is a fairly run-of-the-mill Flames October game thread. Team tripping over themselves to start the season, fans angry that we can't have happy Octobers, etc.

If I was an opposition coach coming in to face the Flames, I'd seriously be doing nothing but talking the team up. It seems like any praise goes to their head and this is the bs that you get.

Not a winning type of group of players that's for sure. Frankly if this was any other team I was commenting on, I'd be remarking that this is not a team that you'd ever need to worry about winning anything as they'd beat themselves before they got anywhere close. Frankly efforts like this make me wonder seriously about the "leadership" on this team and the lack there of. If the Flames have a disappointing finish to this season, I'd be taking a long look at shaking up things on a more serious note.

The thing is how often does this has to continue to happen until it's diagnosed as a team culture problem? What other team in the NHL that have playoff aspirations have such a jekyll and hyde persona as the Flames do? Again, you look on paper, and this is a roster that should be able to hold it's own each night. But more often then not, they're holding on for dear life.

It's a mystery, and if it's another disappointing season, you have to consider if Treliving is the GM for the future of this franchise.
