Flames Dreger: Flames using Sam Bennett as bait to get back into the 1st round

per Dreger:

Flames don't like the speculation swirling around, but the GM is trying to make it back into the 1st round.
Some of the bait being thrown around includes Bennett, doesn't mean Treliving is shopping him
If Flames give up a piece like that, they would want a significant spot in the 1st round

also McKenzie:
Hearing Brodie, Hamonic, Hamilton (says they hear his name every year) names out there.

Treliving doesn't want to upset his blue line but will consider moving one of them for the right price

"Some of the bait being thrown around includes Bennett, doesn't mean Treliving is shopping him"

How direct of a quote is this?

What does Dreger mean? How can Bennett be used as bait but that doesn't mean he's being shopped? In sport, those are synonymous phrases.

I don’t mind this, depending on the pick. It has to be a fairly high first for me to be sold

Diversion tactics. Tree don't like so many blood hounds hot on his trail. Time to throw off the scent.

I just hope if he is traded, that it's not to a Western conference team.

Don’t want to move Bennett short of overpayment.

Is Montreal interested in Bennett?

I'm interested in Brady Tkachuk.

I would be concerned if McKenzie made this comment.

I think this is in line with what Conroy and Treliving were saying. The cost is high. I doubt Bennett is the bait. He is the ask from teams.

I’m so torn on Bennett. On one hand I see the potential, on the other hand it’s been three years and he hasn’t really shown much signs of progression. Do they cut ties while he still has value or hang on and hope he reaches potential? Tough situation with him.

Unless it's top 10ish I'd rather keep him.

That better be a high 1st. I'm fairly certain we still havent seen even remotely the best of Bennett yet and I'd hate to trade him and have him light us up for the rest of his career.

Top 7 minimum. I really could only get on board if it was Tkachuk as the pick.

It's better when it involves 16 bored analysts desperately trying to fill airtime on Trade Deadline day.
