First Avenue and 7th St Entry is a live music lover’s dream. With two separate performance spaces in one building, the historic venue offers something for everyone.
No description of the '80s at First Avenue is complete, without a nod to Prince, who made the club his regular venue, his testing ground for new material, and both the set and the setting of his movie, Purple Rain. Minneapolis' R&B scene came of age during the same time, and you could have brushed shoulders with the likes of Alexander O'Neal, Chico Debarge, Suanne Carlo, Morris Day or Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.
Other acts to play the club in this decade include Curtiss A (on opening night), PiL, New Order, Culture Club, REM, Run DMC, David Byrne (joining the Wallets in the Entry), Hüsker Dü, and the Replacements.
Paisley Park is Prince’s extraordinary private estate and production complex in Chanhassen, Minnesota. Fans will have the unprecedented opportunity to experience first-hand what it was like for Prince to create, produce and perform inside this private sanctuary and remarkable production complex.

This is not your Grandma’s hotel. Radisson’s new brand is “inspired by art, music and fashion” and designed to appeal to the “millennial mind-set.” The colorful casual lobby and bar, with its gigantic mural by Twin Cities artist Adam Turman, is your first clue. And there’s no front desk — guests can download an app that allows them to skip the whole check-in rigmarole and use their phones as key cards. (There is someone available to help those who lack tech savvy.)
Our plans to travel to the Twin Cities is about two weeks after yours. The Twins won't be in town when we're there, and unfortunately, it looks like they won't be there for you either.
We have young children so our tentative plans will be quite different from yours but some of the things are we are looking at that you have not listed yet:
- Mall of America, specifically the Nickelodeon Universe and FlyOver America
- Minnesota Children's Museum in St. Paul
- Weisman Art Museum (designed by Frank Gehry)
- Doing a couple of bridge walks across the Mississippi, including Washington Ave.
- Minnehana Falls / Wabun Park
- Cheapo Records
The Paisley Park tour does not recommend bring young children so I may have to do this tour myself. I was also planning to go to First Ave./7th Street Entry but the club does not appear to be open during the day. I thought I would be able to go in and grab lunch or something with the family but I think they only open when there is a show?

Private tours can be arranged for the general public and are $15/person. Advance reservations are required and you must have a group of 10-25 people before scheduling a tour.
Check ahead to see if you can join a tour?
Maybe if you visit the shop, they can let you in for a peek/photos?

We are also going to Minnesota end July/Beginning August to visit family in St. Cloud. We will probably go for a Twins game as my young cousin is a huge twins fan. Anyone know the best source for secondary market tickets?
Location: A simple man leading a complicated life....

Make a trip to the town of Mille Lacs (1 1/2 hours north of the Twin Cities) and do some Walleye and Wide Mouth Bass fishing on lake Mille Lacs. There are also charter boats that will supply you with all you need (rod, bait and tackle) to go fishing. Done this several times with my brother who lives in the Twin Cities.
Bob was one of the nicest folks I've ever met. The restaurant I worked at was upstairs from the Museum in St. Anthony Main. So many cool and absolutely diabolical things on display there.

I booked the VIP tour at Paisley Park - sadly, you are not allowed to take any pictures there (and they will put your cameras and devices in a locker). The VIP tour gives you the option of getting your picture in Studio B for $10, and they will give you a flash drive. You can take pictures outside the building.
I wrote First Avenue to see if I can get some kind of tour.

Matt’s Bar & Grill, now a Minneapolis landmark, began in 1954 as a neighborhood burger eatery. Shortly after we opened, founder Matt Bristol explains how the “Jucy Lucy” was created when a local customer asked for two hamburger patties with a slice of cheese in the middle. Upon biting into this new, molten hot burger, he exclaimed “that’s one juicy Lucy”, and a legend was born. Customer demand grew so quickly, we forgot to add the “i” and the “Jucy Lucy” has now become a local culinary hero. Remember, if it’s spelled correctly, you just might be eating a shameless ripoff!
I spelled it incorrectly... Fair warning ... the cheese inside of this burger is volcanic level hot. Not spicy just temperature wise. It will literally burn your tongue off so be careful.
I was in DT Minneapolis on business for a week back in October, and really didn't go out and see anything- kind of regretting it now. Didn't even walk to the river. Basically just walked to the office building from our Hotel (Radisson Blu), and to various restaurants at night. We did spend several hours at Mall of America before our flight home, but meh... really not that exciting imo having been to of West Ed more than enough- although Shake Shack and the Crayola store (for kids gifts) were great.
Anyway that said, there is a lot of great beer out of Minnesota, with the highlight being Surly Brewing's Todd the Axeman.
And the most memorable restaurant was definitely Hell's Kitchen. Great food and live music.
There are so many amazing burger spots throughout the Twin Cities! Classics are always Matt's Bar, 5-8, the Nook and Blue Door for the four-way Juicy Lucy war
