Icon44 Devils goalie didn't like Lack of playing time in Calgary

https://www.northjersey.com/story/sp...nee/317210002/

Sounds like Lack was expecting it to be 1A/1B situation with Smith and he is hoping to start against the Flames tomorrow.

Quote:
Mike Smith has played in 45 of the Flames’ 53 games this season but Lack questioned that the disparity in games played was solely because of Smith’s performance. Smith is 22-15-6 with a 2.50 GAA and a .922 save percentage.

“Honestly, I don’t even think it had anything to do with Smitty,” Lack said. “He played really, really good but I can’t see why you can’t have two goalies going. That’s something that these guys [the Devils] have done good here. They’ve got two goalies going and both are getting wins.

“That’s the kind of teams I’ve been on in the past and that’s how I thought it was going to be in Calgary,” Lack added. “They wanted something different and I wasn’t part of the plan.”

Sounds bitter.

Its simple: play better and you'd get more playing time.

Good riddance

Might have been as a result of his Lack of good goaltending.

Your 1A is a Vezina contender, and your 1B is barely AHL ready.

It's always telling when a player like Lack gets very limited playing time, and then is suddenly given away. Reminds of Philippe Sauve years back. Played 1 game as a Flame, then gone. For all we know those guys weren't putting in the work at practice, in the gym or behind the scenes. Then you see bad player like Bartowski, Brouwer. Players who aren't very good. But they work hard behind the scenes and are good teammates.

In Lack's situation there was talk of him not being good enough in practice. Fans dont' usually get to see stuff like that. But IMO it's pretty telling that there was more going on (or not happening) behind the scenes then simply ''the Flames had other plans''.

He cleared waivers.

You don't often see that with 1a/1b caliber goalies.

Bill Peters (Hurricanes coach) was right on the mark about a year ago regarding Eddie:

I just looked it up and Lack hasn't even played a full game for New Jersey yet. I hope he's not setting his sights too high.

Maybe he thinks he is 1b in NJ now or he is 1a. He will be 1a/b when he plays in Europe next yr.

Lets be real, Lack didn't get as much playing time as he probably wanted and received a lot of flack from the brief little stint he had here. But, he was garbage last season with the Hurricanes, what makes you think we were going to do a 1A/1B situation? He was basically here for us as insurance in case the other goalies in the AHL were ready or not. Rittich was ready, bye bye Lack. It's as simple as that. If you want more playing time, play better.

I just noticed that Cory Schneider is injured. Lack will probably be back as an AHL 1A/1B, when Schneider returns. That's probably what The Legend was talking about.

This. Absolutely nobody was confident in him. He also cleared waivers so it wasnt exactly a unique opinion.

He was worth an inexpensive throw at the dartboard. He just didnt do it.
