Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
#Flames lines a little different today:
Gaudreau-Monahan-Chiasson;
Bouma-Backlund-Frolik;
Ferland-Bennett-Brouwer;
Tkachuk-Stajan-Versteeg

Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
#Flames pairings the same:
Giordano-Brodie;
Hamilton-Jokipakka;
Engelland-Kulak;
Wideman-Grossmann

Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
So #Flames skating with the same look they ended last night with. Elliott in the starters net this morning.

Wow... those are different. Quite a mix. I can see why they'd try Chiasson on line 1 and Ferland on line 2 based on last game though. It also beefs up the 4th line to be basically like a 3rd line.

Interesting. Versteeg looked meh on the top line so I'm all for a change. I doubt Tkachuk plays the year on our 4th line. I'd imagine they send him back to Juniors if that were the case.

I don't mind those lines. Chiasson on the first line kind of gives you that "Nystrom or Moss up on the 1st line with Iggy" vibe a little bit but it couldn't hurt to put some size and energy up there for a game or two and see how it works. I'm also excited to see Elliott get another kick at it.

I think they're trying this because Ferland didn't work well with the Backs-Frolik pairing, and he played too well last night to be glued to the 4th line. I can see how the move can be justified. And the top line has still been underwhelming at 5 on 5, so bringing Chiasson in may help make some space for the other two guys. Plus he's been playing well, at least better than Versteeg.

Bouma with the Michaels worked well IMO.

Back in my day you started rookies on the 4th line and eased em into the lineup. Now they get top 6 minutes, and are all snapchatted and twittered.

I like it. Good balance, and no good player is being wasted. That "4th" line could put up some points, Stajans had a good start

Bouma is the weakest link IMO, but he's had success with Backlund so I like him on that line

Tkatchuk played a bit with Stajan last night and it was OK. That FBB line was put together as well and had its moments.

maybe not the best thread, but can somebody tell me what Roger's tweet said about Russell before he deleted it?

Complaining that the team isn't showing as much heart and effort as Russell?

If Tkachuk ends up sticking this year, i could see these being our lines for a decent amount of time just with him and Chiasson switched up.

While he may not be ready for 1st line duty yet, he's exactly the type of player we need with 13-23 and there's no better options on this team right now anyways.

Very true. Just not sure what the "system" is asking them to do.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

well if it was like the powerplay bump-back tried 10000 times....that was pretty telegraphed.....I can see why he'd be pissed. Not creative enough, easy to defend against when you know what is coming.

im looking at his twitter feed and he dropped an old favourite: "analytics don't measure HEART!" and Russell has all of that, much more than others" paraphrased.

he said something to the effect that advanced stats are flawed because they can't measure Russell's heart and effort. Analytics community jumped on him.

Normally I don't advocate for that kind of coaching/managing by ripping into a player/team.

But that friggen had to be said. So good on you Gully.

I absolutely love that 4th D pairing

Say what you want about the coach thus far. But you can't deny he's made changes when needed, and quickly. Much more satisfying to see that Hartley's "give him half a season of leash before I make a change'' mentality.
