Am I missing something with Parenteau? Is his contract so astronomically high that his play doesn't justify it?

I am guessing some might think Parenteau is a worthwhile risk for the Flames.

$1.25 mil one year deal RW. 33 years old

Some insight as to why the Isles are waiving him:
Arthur Staple @StapeNewsday
#Isles signed Parenteau in hopes of rekindling magic with JT. Only played last night together but org clearly feels better options on roster

Pavelec will be placed on waivers according to Ken Wiebe.

Jets fans rejoice.

I'd love to see P.A here for that contract.

I wonder if they send him down? I can't see him being claimed.

Would the flames be the 6th team to make a claim on waivers?

If he's here it's because Gaudreau hasn't signed. Please, God, no...

PA Parenteau would be an excellent fit on our team. He has warts, more than one, but he put up 20 goals and 41 points last year and wouldn't be an anchor on Gaudreau and Monahan's right side.

Better option than anything we have and a more sensible choice then playing either Gaudreau or Ferland on their off wing.

Actually because he's a RW and our RW depth is horrible.

About time. Did Hellebucyk demand a trade or something?

Pretty sad that Parenteau, a potential waiver claim, would slot into the top line here.

Flames are 5th in waiver priority after Toronto, Edmonton, Vancouver, and Columbus.

Yes, he's also not great without the puck, small, not especially strong... but he makes 1.5/only for this year. He can score, and he's immediately a more appropriate option than anything we have.

Gaudreau and Monahan don't exactly kill guys with speed either.

Won't be picking up anyone until the Gaudreau deal is done, so it would seem unlikely that Parenteau ends up here anyway.

Not really. Brouwer and Frolik are better players than him and sit above PA on a depth list but both those guys have defined roles and slots in the line up already.

For one, wingers can play on their off wing pretty easily.

For two, PA Paranteau is no good so he doesn't help our RW depth.
