Default North America vs Sweden - 1 pm - Sportsnet

Gibson gets the start:

Craig Custance
Craig Custance – Verified account ‏@CraigCustance

John Gibson gets the start for Team North America in goal. Matt Murray injured. Ryan Murray will take warmups to see if he can go.

And as mentioned in the World Cup thread, Backlund done with a concussion for the tournament and Berglund takes his spot

Matt Murray injured? Does pride count? Or was that the reported finger that was being taped up?

Probably the finger. It makes sense though, the guy has a job to do this year and it is in his best interest to be 100% for it.

Too bad this is on in the afternoon during a work day. The NA team is the only reason I (and I suspect a lot of other people) was starting to follow the tournament. Hopefully they win and make it through.

I hope they lose and Johnny gets a hat trick and comes back to Calgary not injured to sign a contract.

According the Flames website Gaudreau will play with Nugent-Hopkins and Nathan Mackinnon.

It definitely is kind of funny to be cheering for particular players/lines only, as opposed to the whole team itself. When McDavid is on, I want them them to fail during those shifts out of pure spite for Sportsnet and McLennan pushing him so hard.

It's not unlike watching juniors...the final outcome is secondary to individual performances or impact on the Flames.

Backlund getting hurt has made me cheer for Sweden in this game. I want Johnny heading back to Calgary to sign a contract and get ready for the real season.

Come to think of it, I want team NA to lose today.

At first it was just a spiteful thought, but the extra negotiating time will be good too. Who knows maybe Treliving and Johnny's agent already have a mutual agreement and are ready to announce.

This was the matchup I was most curious about for North America in their group. That defense will be very difficult to fluster and overwhelm with speed.

With John Cooper was running the show, this is probably closer.

Hoping TNA loses but Johnny gets a hat trick.

I want them to start negotiating asap and after losing Backlund I want our best player out of this thing

Put me in the same camp. Let's go with 1 goal though - rather that than a hatty going back into talks.

I am still cheering for team NA and Gaudreau. I hope they win it all and he comes back like 99% of the players, uninjured.

It's more to get the negotiations going again. The injury factor is just the cherry on top.

Honestly I am more interested in watching an oilers coach, gm, golden boy #2 , and a forgotten #1 overall pick fail with what is probably the most stacked team in the tournament , Then seeing gaudreau advance.

Absolutely. The ice time management by McLellan looks especially incompetent when you have Babcock playing Crosby (the actual, not potential, best player in hockey) evenly with everyone else.

I would have a Chernobyl level meltdown if Johnny got injured in this tournament.
