I would expect so as it's the only way for the team to get a fresh start. This may have implications for the Flames if there is a complete house cleaning. If Treliving is a big fan of Tippett or any coaches, scouts, etc he has an opportunity to hire them.

Kind of a "no duh" comment from me but this is going to be an insanely interesting summer from a player & personnel standpoint for the Flames.
On topic, I expect Tippett to be let go as well.

Edit: Friedman suggesting a Maloney departure could mean more personnel decisions for Tippett

I'd love Tippett as the Flames bench boss. I think he's the kind of guy this team needs and if they add a few key pieces and a new coach, they could be really good really soon.

Pretty surprising if true... From a player development point of view, they are widely considered to have one of the best prospect bases in the league

This is LONG overdue. Maloney has made so many errors in trades and dealing with players that he essentially destroyed their defensive core the last couple years.

Tippett's been tuned out by the players for a couple seasons now. Pretty sure Doan coaches that team and motivates them.

Long time coming. At no point in his time as PHX/AZ GM can you really look at his body of work and say he's been doing a good job.

Sounds like Tippet is staying and getting more involved in personnel descisions.

 Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
Further to @RealKyper tweet, any shakeup in ARIZ would likely mean an increased role in personnel decisions for Dave Tippett

 Nick Kypreos @RealKyper
New trend in #NHL has coaches moving toward more involvement in player personnel. Possible scenario with Tippett staying with #Coyotes.

Because Arizona has been killing it?
 Awful brand of hockey

i'm a bit surprised. They showed glimpses, especially earlier on, about how good they could be, around some of the up and coming talent they have. It is especially intriguing when you look at the next wave of quality prospects coming (strome, dvorak, merkley, perlini, etc).
i think everyone would agree that the team is on an upward swing to be a consistent playoff team within a year or so. i wonder, if management looked at their market and made the decision on whether the team philosophy and style of play has to be much more exciting to watch. You can't be in a non-hockey market where the team has struggled to make a dent in acquiring real fans and then play a relatively boring brand of hockey.

mind you, arizona/phx still playing a boring/overly-structured style could be a terrible assumption on my part. I simply refuse to tune into a phoenix game due to their reputation of being boring, and then the games they play vs the flames don't really change my opinion.

i think maloney/tippet are on the path of a winning team very soon, so still a strange decision.

Tippet did some really great things to a very thinning Dallas Stars roster, a few years back. But I've never been THAT impressed with the yotes. Sure they had a run but they have had some pretty nice pieces to work with and have some success. I think there are a few failures with players also though.
Boedker should have turned into something really special.

Korpikoski was a bit of a disaster and shouldn't have been.

The D on the Yotes were very much Flames'esque if today.

Yandle, OEL, Michalek in his prime and some nice up and coming prospects.

I just don't see what Tippet has done that has so many people raving about, that is so much better than what Hartley provides.

What I love about Hartley is, I get the impression the players are still very engaged, listening to the coach, drinking the cool-aid, and being rewarded for their efforts.

It's actually a bit of a relief that we havnt swapped coaches in the last few years and, although it's not the results we have hoped for yet, the team is trending in the right direction and there is consistency and accountability.

I don't see what more Tippet brings at this point.

 Systems play? Special teams?

If Maloney doesn't land a job right away I wonder if he will take some kind of scout/advisory role with the Flames? Similar to Burke with the Ducks once he was fired from Toronto

The 2 Arizona fans are not happy about this. So would really like to hear the so many errors you think he's made. He's one of the better GMs out there. With a limited payroll he's had quite the success. Just a silly post.

Cox mentioning Maloney likely leading candidate to run the Vegas expansion team.

Yeah, reactions as far as I can tell is that it was Tippet that was the problem, getting too involved in personnel decisions. If true, not good because this move probably makes that part of his role even bigger.
I always thought Maloney was a pretty good GM.
