Flames Friedman: Flames have inquired about Pittsburgh Goalie Matt Murray

per Friedman on HNIC

he said he has heard it but can't confirm it. He also said all teams inquiring about Murray have been rebuffed so far. Which Cox says means he is unavailable.

And for further smoke the Flames were scouting the Toronto Marlies vs Wilkes Barre Penguins last night

Friedman also said the #1 priority for the Flames at the deadline is to acquire a goaltender.

Murray is considered on the best goalies in the AHL, and could be ready to be slowly introduced into the NHL.

It's Pittsburgh at the deadline. Of course he will be available.

Hudler or Russell to potentially address our goaltending situation long term?

Do it.

Hudler / Russell. And probably a swap of picks or another prospect from Calgary.

Good. No point in putting all out eggs into the Jon Gillies basket. Has star potential but you need more that one solid goalie prospect making the push.

I wonder if the Penguins want to keep Murray and transition to him at some point. When is Fleury UFA?

Wonder if throwing in a Mason McDonald or Joni Ortio would force Pittsburghs hand in addition to Hudler/Russell. Or maybe even Raymond cause Rutherfords an idiot

Had good stats in his 4 games he played earlier this year.

2-1-1, 1.72 gaa and .938 save %

Probably would be up instead of Zatkoff if he wasn't on a 2 way

He seems to be the perfect age to take over the net from Fleury. He has one more year on his ELC, and is waiver-exempt for two more seasons. Fleury's contract has three more seasons, and will expire when he's 34 years-old.

Murray hasn't even turned 22 yet.

For Pittsburgh to even consider it, you'd have to think they'd be asking for Gillies in return. I don't know if I'd want to do that.

If Treliving could get him for McDonald or someone other than Gillies, I'd be interested, but I like Gillies a lot.

I'd give them Gillies in a second if thats part of the package. Murray is way ahead in his development.

Of more interst is what else Flames would have to add. I doubt a couple of rentals gets it done.

Makes sense that they are trying to get a young goalie. Why not target assets in that area.

After a quick call to a buddy I would do Hudler and a 2nd for this guy(and maybe even more), big, quick, covers the net and has a great glove.

Fleury has 3 years left so I can't see how they manage to keep Murray.
