Sharks blogger afraid of Johnny Hockey
http://www.fearthefin.com/2016/1/12/...source=twitter
Thought you guys might get a kick out of this: Sharks blog, FeartheFin break down fancy stats after each game and with this one they concluded that the Sharks won, but "Gaudreau will be skating through my nightmares".
It ends with:
When Gaudreau enters the zone my eyes immediately start to flick around the ice to see what defenders are out there. I don't know why I do this, because quite frankly there could be two Vlasics and three Pavelskis on the ice and I'd be concerned. Gaudreau seems to win every board battle he enters into and his vision on the ice makes him as much a threat to thread the needle for an assist as he is to snipe a corner.
In conclusion, I would very much like to never watch the Sharks play against Gaudreau ever again. Please go back to the hockey planet you come from and leave us all alone.
***
This guy is so exciting to watch - more so because i know what it's like being 19-20, 5-8 150lbs - that was me (35years and 40lbs ago) and I couldn't imagine in my wildest dreams playing on the same sheet of ice with real NHLers like Kronwall or Shea Weber that would rather pulverize you than be embarrassed.
You guys are gonna be so conflicted when Gaudreau scores the goal that wins the USA the gold medal :-)

The guy is such a treat to watch. I think us Flames fans are pretty lucky to be able to watch such a rare talent night in and night out for the next several years. You can totally feel the buzz at the Dome whenever he has the puck.

Man he could be well over PPG right now if he had a real RW this year. He is over a PPG playing with a useless Hudler for half the season and a collection of 4th liners the other half.

I know this isn't the first time this has been said, but yeah... All those years saying "Iginla could be so much better if he had a real center". *sigh*

Could Care Less

I said this in the other thread re: Monahan, but the real untold story in both of their production is the relatively small amount of power play points. If they can get the PP going again, and it looks like they are, they're going to pile up points.
The top producers in the league generally produce half of their points on the PP. Johnny and Monny aren't even close to that, in spite of the fact that they're on the top unit.
Sky is the limit.

What Johnny has done this year, considering the level of support he has had from his line-mates (including some inconsistent play from Monahan) is astounding.
And it is starting to show in how other teams defend against him.
Teams used to try and defend the pass, kind of like how they defend the Sedins. But with the lack of quality line-mates, we are seeing more and more teams double-team Johnny.
SJ was a perfect example last night. Instead of defending the zone, or the pass, or any number of other defensive strategies, they simply sent two guys after him each time he got the puck - one from each direction - and close his space. Other teams have done that recently as well.
I would assume the thought process is: if he passes to someone else, so be it (they are less of a threat), but don't let Johnny beat you.
Makes total sense. And until he gets quality line-mates that other teams respect, this will become more and more the norm.

Another crazy thing about his production is he has the second lowest PP point % of the top 15 scorers in the league. If he even had an average PP point percentage he would have at least 5 more points. If he was in the top percentage like Pavelski, Backstrom, Ovie, etc he could have 8+ more points.
The horrible PP could cost him 10-20 points this year. Let's hope it starts to produce!
