Have you considered a blue tooth headphone to go with your existing phone? Blue birds X might fit the bill in an unconventional sense. Keep the phone by the water bottle and deal only with the cables around your head. There are other options if it's too expensive, but if you're thinking of buying an mp3 player right now, I'd assume it could fit.

I can't think of anything else that might fit the bill mp3 wise. Sorry.

Thanks for the suggestion.
Unfortunately I'm not interested in using my phone. It's a work phone, nothing I want to or can be leaving around a gym (and by gym I mostly mean weights, not cardio machines, don't want to crush it in my pocket with a dumbbell). Also going for runs, etc. don't want to have my phone on me.

Unfortunately if you want a mp3 player that can stream via apps over wifi, I think you already have decided on one of the best options. Now if you want just a great mp3 player, the Sony A17 isn't a bad option.

iPod Touch? It'll run apps the same as an iPhone. Starts at $250.

I have had good experience with one of these so far:

Picked one up on sale for $30 last time I was in the US
Doesn't do wifi but is a good gym/running mp3 player

I replaced my clip zip with one of these recently:

Storage isn't big but good enough for a few play lists, sound is good. Being able to shower while listening to music and no external item to worry about while working out has been very nice though. I wouldn't suggest swimming with them though unless you want to tinker with the seal until you get it right.

I love my ClipZip with Rockbox. Unfortunately Rockbox won't work on the newer Sansa players...

Is your clip zip dying? Or are you discussing the fact most sansa players are discontinued and the new ones not compatible with rockbox?

It's not dying, but I'm not sure what I am going to replace it with when it does, as Rockbox is great and ya, not compatible with new ones.

It blows my mind that a 4GB clip zip goes for over $170 now. $150 USD for a 8GB one. IMO Sansa needs to revive that line of inexpensive, durable, small and practical mp3 players.
@ ranchlandsselling: A used phone might work decently but if you don't want to lug a phone while working out, it probably won't work.

Thanks,
Might look at that Sandisk one, just because it's so cheap. Or maybe the touch, although still seems a bit big/expensive for the gym. We'll see.
How old of a touch would still be able to play music apps like songza (or google play since another thread said they're the same)? Or at least play well?

I dunno about iPod touch, but a 4G iPhone can take up to a minute to boot up Spotify. Not sure about speed of 4S. Maybe half that time?
If you just want a small little MP3 for the gym, Sandisk MP3 are hard to beat.
Now, if you want... The cowon D3 is a nice MP3 which runs android. It's about $150 USD on Amazon.com, but can't get on Amazon.ca. I've heard varied comments about it though. Some love it, some hate it.

Any thoughts on this?
http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/...ctID.314281100
Can get on sale for $120 every now and then apparently.
http://www.zdnet.com/article/blu-win...-expectations/
It would have everything an ipod touch would (I think) at half the price and also is could be like a backup phone.
Never wanted a phone style mp3 player but now for the apps and connectivity it might be neat, and a Nano is $179 and not upgrade-able memory wise... 16 gb compared to 8+ 32 add on option for the windows phone (plus camera, video, apps, etc).

Was talking to someone about the above phone and they said the audio driver wasn't great but the Nokia 635 that wasn't much more would be a better choice.

Never seen that phone, sorry. But yeah, the Nokia should be a fine choice. Good camera in it as well.
