Do you live in Calgary? If so, do you find that you have proper access to facilities you wish to utilize?

I was recently yelled at by a man in a wheelchair because i held open the door for him, he said that I was discriminating against him because I assumed that he couldn't do it for himself. He was not satisfied with my reply of "I would have held it for anyone." Do you get angry when/if you feel people are giving you special treatment?

It is fairly good, although the C-train passes me off to no end sometimes when I have to watch 2 or 3 old trains with no-ramps come and go before I can go anywhere!!

really? wow that is kinda crazy.

I don't usually feel offended, or anything unless they are condescending, or something.. although sometimes itis irritating to be waiting by the door for a ride and everyone tries to open the door, I mean I appreciate the gesture, but I would ask someone to open it if i needed to go out.

lol these threads are silly, but interesting...even educational, helps put stereotypes to bed.

the parking spot, well it depends, those spots really make it easier for someone disabled to unload and such... so, yeah I would be passed If I couldnt park anywhere suitable because someone took the spot.

Are you in a wheel chair due to a spinal injury, degenerative disease, or since birth?

at least you didn't phrase it "were you born in a wheelchair?"... cuz, damn my mother would have been in pain....

born with a disorder.

I'm disabled too though I'm lucky to be the one of the one in five people with Spina Bifida to not need a wheelchair or some other form of walking aid.

yes, we get a deal for attendants as most disabled people can't go out alone without assistance.

no vehicle. I rely on handi-bus, accesible taxi and LRT.
