Marijuana Prohibition - Where do you stand?
I am kind of curious to see what the general thoughts are around here. Personally, I am for 100% legalization for recreational use with strict control and taxation.
For me, this is one of the top election issues, although I am probably in the minority there as it really isn't being discussed much.
There is a new CBC story suggests that Calgary is the 8th most lax city in Canada (out of 34 cities and ahead of Vancouver) when it comes to actually pressing pot related charges. I assume that the law enforcement on the issue is reflective of the civil will within Calgary, but maybe I am wrong.
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manito...ents-1.3247653
It goes without saying that Calgary and Alberta in general have historically preferred Conservative governments, of which the current one seems to prefer prohibition. Would electing a Liberal government for one term be worth getting this law changed?
If this was a poll, maybe the choices could be:
1. Legalize it!
2. Decriminalize it
3. Keep the status quo.
4. Make the laws more strict
5. Meh, whatever. Don't care, or undecided.

Legalize it
Package it, sell it, tax the crap out of it, put an age limitation on it like smokes.
If you're caught selling it illegally you get heavily fined.
If you get caught selling it illegally to youths then your sentenced to hard labor on one of the government pot farms.
Take the money earned off of taxes and fines and invest it in rehab for people hooked on harder drugs, and bullets for inserting into drug dealers that sell them.

Legalize and tax it, not really any different than smokes or booze.

Legalize it and tax it. I have no issues telling anyone who thinks my mom shouldn't have Legal access to pot to ease her chemo treatments is a piece of garbage.

It's stupid that this is still an issue. Just legalize it already.

No question, legalize it, but tax and structure it. It should be publicly available like alcohol and tobacco if possible, and if not, no more bureaucratized than an OTC drug.
On the same front, I believe they should ramp up prosecution against abused opoids, such as trafficking Fentanyl and oxycodone.

I am fine with the legalization, but I think it needs to have similar controls as booze. Specifically, when it comes to operation of a motor vehicle.
Now, before anyone/everyone posts studies about the affects of pot, I am suggesting this because I think the majority of the population would be more welcoming to legalization if this approach was taken. (I will say I don't know or have an opinion on what the "legal limit" should be, or if there is even the ability to test for it, like a breathalyzer.)
I think this approach would gain support from those that might normally not support legalization.

Legalize and tax.
This is one of the main things, for me personally as a conservative voter, that I dont agree with their stance on. With the knowledge we have now there is no reason to be against ending pot prohibition.

They could also use some of the tax money to create a program for kids in the 14 and up range that teaches them the real dangers of drug usage and how to spot signs that one of your friends/family needs help.
That would probably go a lot farther in lowering the number of drug users then those dumb commercials.

Legalize and regulate it.
However, to answer the question OP poses - no, the marijuana issue is not itself important enough to warrant voting for Trudeau, frankly. It is one point in his favour though.

Colorado seems to be making money hand over fist from it, so whatever they're doing, I say we do the exact same thing.
