Quentin Tarantino's original casting for Pulp Fiction (leaked)
http://consequenceofsound.net/2015/0...-leaks-online/
Quote:
If things had gone as planned, “They call it a Royale with cheese” would sound entirely different in our heads than it does today. Recently leaked casting sheets reveal that Quentin Tarantino had originally envisioned very different casting choices for many of the roles in his cult classic Pulp Fiction.
While the auteur nabbed a few of his top choices, including Tim Roth as Pumpkin and Amanda Plummer as Honey Bunny, some of the other major characters were intended for other people. Playing Vincent may have revitalized John Travolta’s career, but the part was actually written for Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs star Michael Madsen. Travolta is noted as a “strong, strong, strong second choice,” but if he couldn’t do it, offers would have gone out to Alec Baldwin, Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, and maybe even Denzel Washington. Dennis Quaid’s name is also on the list, though on the low end of things.

It's funny he had Gary Oldman slated for several roles, but one he didn't have him under was The Wolf, which I think he would've done the best job at.

Interesting. Too bad more of the cast isn't listed.

Now, yeah. But in '94, Oldman was 36, only a couple years older than Roth. Whereas Keitel is almost 20 years older than Oldman (55 at the time), so it makes sense that Oldman wasn't really who they were looking for to be The Wolf.

Just think about how terrible Pulp Fiction could have been if some of his casting choices had made it into the movie. Nick Cage? Dodged a bullet there lol.

So what you're saying is that Oldman was Youngman?

Christian Slater's career may have been quite different if he landed at least one of those roles he was considered for. He could have been Travolta'd back into the A-list.

A more complete list, though there are some minor discrepancies (like Sean Penn and Tim Roth showing up under Vincent).

Disagree, 90s nick cage movies didn't suck as much. As an actor he's always been bad, leaving Las Vegas, raising Arizona were OK movies with terrible acting. He's a bad actor that managed to talk his way into some good movies. Now he doesn't care if the movies are good he is in it for money only, he used to kind of try.

In 1994, Christian Slater was still considered A-list. In fact, that was his heyday.

Seems to have Johnny Depp slated for almost every role too...as Butch...well that's just weird. Johnny Depp is a lot of things, but a burnt out thuggish heavy weight boxer he is not.

I hope this spurs a bunch of those actors to put together a compilation of clips with them doing scenes from Pulp Fiction together.
That's exactly what the new digital filming, internet self-distribution paradigm should be about

Really? Seems like he got his first or second choice on just about everything... this is not particularly surprising. His first choices, on those few occasions, wouldn't have significantly altered the film, in my view. The only one that jumps out at me is he apparently originally had quite a different idea of what Butch would be like.

Slater and Oldman both in True Romance. Was that before or after PF?
edit - and Patricia Arquette too.
