Default I need a new website

Many years ago I built my website using iWeb on my old 2008 Macbook. iWeb ended up being discontinued, and seeing as my site is mainly just a landing page for potential freelance clients (contact info/CV) I never bothered to do anything about it.

Lately I've been wanting a sleeker site - still basically just a landing page - just with more up to date info and feel to it. I've looked into things like Wix, Weebly & Squarespace, but it seems they all have monthly fees. All I want is a drag and drop editor with a little freedom to break out of the template box and the ability to upload the finished site to my Godaddy account. Also, having a mobile version would be nice too.

I'll admit to being really behind the times with this sort of thing. Should I just pay the subscription fees from one of the aforementioned sites and ditch GoDaddy? Is their a builder that's simple to use and Mac friendly? Does anyone out there want to build one for me?

If you're going to do it yourself, I'd go Squarespace. I've seen what Wix does to sites for money and it can be pretty horrific. You might have some trouble depending on what you mean by "break out of the template box", but that boils down to your general skill set.

So my question is then, what's up with the monthly fees? Are they essentially providing the same services that I currently pay GoDaddy for? Obviously I don't want to be paying double costs. I imagine I'd pay for Squarespace, design my site and somehow get the domain I bought from GoDaddy brought over to SquareSpace? Will that impact my email associated with that site?

Sorry for all the questions - it's been a long time since I dealt with this sort of thing.

In your case what you're paying for is the drag and drop builder. The subscriptions also include hosting, so Godaddy isn't technically necessary to the process, but you can create the site and then point it to the domain you bought on Godaddy. Slightly redundant, but if you've got your email setup through Godaddy it makes sense.

There are some decent WordPress templates for what you want, which can be run on your GoDaddy hosting account. Here are some decent ones > and more can be found on the WordPress theme repository, or a quick Google search.

If you're willing to throw some money at this project, I teach web development at SAIT. I could send the project out to our students to see if anyone is interested. PM me if you want to explore this.
