Rogers Issues
So since this weekend, my wife and I have had issues with both of our phones. She didn't have data for a little while and then she couldn't make or receive calls. Now, she has data back and calls are fine.
I was always able to make and receive calls, but I haven't had data since Friday night. I'm in Edmonton right now for business and no data for 2 1/2 days. Two calls to tech support and still no resolution or ETA. Apparently a lot of Rogers customers have data/call issues. Anyone else have issues with Rogers? This is nuts to not have this fixed after almost 3 days.
I'm assuming there are quite a few people as wait time for chat with tech support is an hour.

I read somewhere (I think Facebook trending tab) that Rogers was having cellphone issues nationwide.

I don't know if it is a Rogers problem, or a problem with iOS 8.4, but I tore through my 6 GB data plan in 2 weeks. I am beyond pissed off.

What is your typical monthly usage? I have the 6 gig plan, and I haven't noticed any noticeable change in my data usage since 8.4.
Perhaps something is running in the background and sucking your data? I'd be grumpy too though. Did they cut you off or just start charging you out the wazoo for data?

I usually use around 4 GB. I think Facebook was using up a ton, but Apple Music decided to wipe out my local playlists, and start streaming all my music. I am so ticked off.

Is it just me, or are they now on a crusade to get rid of grandfathered 6Gig/$30 plans by not subsidizing a new device unless you switch to one of their crappy overpriced Share Everything plans?

Unfortunately I'm not in a position to spend a grand on a new phone...

Presumably this will also be for Fido, which will make my next renewal in 1.5 years a little more interesting. When I renewed last time, the Fido rep confirmed that my $30 6 gig add-on and my $30 plan still qualified as a "Max" plan, which was the criteria for getting a new device subsidized.
It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if the goalposts have been moved to get rid of some of these 6 gig plans. From my cold, dead hands!

I'm not generally a tinfoil hat kinda guy, but they've been actively trying to get me off my 6 gig plan. Out of nowhere last week I get a 75% usage warning message, and then a 100% usage message the next day. So somehow on my 60 minute commute I managed to use 1.5 gigs? Seems very sketchy. Ended up costing nearly $40 in overage fees. I talked to a couple people who've had similar problems and have called Rogers. There's nothing that can be done and they both ended up FAR angrier than they started out, so I'm just going to roll over on this one.

Not to substantiate your tinfoil hat claims, but I have had a 5-6 gig plan for a good 4 years now. Over those 4 years my usage hasn't changed. I do the same stuff with my phone now as I did then. I have never gone over 3.5gigs. Last month I went over my limit by a full gig and I'm already approaching my limit this month with 15 days left on my billing cycle.
There are some tweaks to my usage, but I don't understand how it can change that dramatically.
And before everyone jumps in with "You can monitor whats using what in your settings!" I do and its just a general increase across all apps, there is no specific culprit.

I'm also on a 6gb plan with Fido (with a 1gb bonus to boot!) and I haven't experienced any of these overages others are experiencing. But from this post on iPhone in Canada it looks like this may be an iPhone 6(+) issue, as I'm on a 5s.
Just for fun I'm resetting my "cellular usage" tab in system settings to zero this month to see what happens.
Hey look at that, apparently I used 1gb of data since this morning's commute.

^ I have noticed that my usage has gone up in recent months as well, but I have found that the Fido usage counter and my phone's tally are very much in line with each other.
As much as I distrust Rogers to keep an accurate count for me, it is matching what my phone is reporting, so I don't know if I can blame them. I actually set an alarm for about 11pm on the night that my usage resets so I can reset the counter on my phone, just to make sure.
One thing that I found laughable was that I inquired with Fido as to whether I would get a usage warning if I was nearing my limit (had to stream a soccer game over 3G while at a cabin in BC). They said that my plan didn't include a text notification when I get near to or exceed my limit. Asked if I could add that, and the answer was "yes, if we change your plan." Nice try. Give me less data at a higher cost just so you can tell me when I run through it more quickly?

And to add: "background app refresh" on the iPhone can eat battery and data while you're not using apps. Facebook, for example, refreshes nearly instantly when I launch it. There's no need to have it constantly refreshing in the background. The same can be said for most apps. I can wait the split second for it to refresh when I launch it.
As more apps are designed to refresh in the background, this would be partly to blame. And when you install an app, it allows background refreshing by default, so I periodically have to go in and flip them to "off". You can disable it entirely, but I do like to allow one or two.

If you use Onedrive- make sure you turn of cellular data. Turn it back on when you need to. I've found a couple of times where it chewed up data on its own.

So after reading this thread this morning my data use was at about 450mb after 7 days, not uncommon for my use. And now after work it's reporting 2GB of use on Fido.
Uggg, I'm joining Russic's tinfoil hat club.

My original thought was that it's an Apple Music problem because the timing was very suspect. I'm betting you're not using Apple Music though...

Ok, so maybe it is Apple Music? I still have my Spotify subscription. I should probably figure it out.
