Default Summer 2015 Prospect Ranking - Round 7 Run Off

Love the middle of the top ten ... so contested.

I'll put the run off up now, and put up round 8 as soon as we have 300+ votes and a 10 vote margin in voting.

I don't know why, but I voted Granlund in the head to head, although I likely have Hickey higher in my mind long-term. I guess people campaigning for Granlund have gotten to me over the last few days.

I think Granlund will be an NHL'er for sure but I don't think he'll be much more than a third line guy. I think of the two, Hickey has a higher ceiling.

^ haha
I like the runoff.
I don't have Granlund in my top 10 so will get to switch my vote to a better prospect, assuming Hickey wins.

Granlund has been invisible in development camp.

Hickey has been solid.

Yes I know Granlund isn't at development camp.

I've seen many more people strongly against Granlund being ahead of Hickey than I have for him. Not sure what could be said to change your opinion on the one prospect you've actually seen play NHL games last year. I feel like Granlund is the one prospect everyone should have their mind made up about. The fact he's already dropped below #6 is pretty telling as to what people think of him.

Granlund. Continue to believe he is under rated in this poll in favor of shiny new toys that we know less about. I share the excitement abou Hickey but at this point, Granlund has shown more development and I see no reason to believe he has topped out.

Went Hickey again. I heard an interview with Stienberg where he mentioned that he was able to gain 20 lbs during the season last year. I love the growth in the one year that he has achieved playing at BU. If he has a similar step in his development I could see him leaving BU after his sophomore year.

I thought this year for Granlund was a major dissapointment. He has shown that he is no more than a bottom-6 forward. on top of that, the Flames are LOADED at center, and I am not sure where he fits.

Hickey on the other hand, is everything the Flames want. Slick skating, 2-way d-man that can jump into the play offensively. I would not be surprised if 5 years from now, Hickey and Brodie are the main-stay's on the blueline.

Vote Hickey 2015.

Granlund showed some good steps in his time with the Flames and he plays a solid 2-way game for a young player. It was frustrating watching him go less than 40% on faceoffs as a centre however on a team that really struggles in the faceoff circle.

I haven't watched Hickey play but it sounds like his development in one season from the AJHL to the NCAA was exceptional. He gets my vote based on his pace of development and potential upside.

Vote Hickey 2015.
Think it's pretty early to write him off as "no more than a bottom 6 forward" after just one season. He seemed somewhat tentative to me with the big club. I think that's natural with a young guy trying to earn his coach's trust. We know he has an excellent shot that he didn't utilize much last season, as well as other areas of his offensive game.
It's possible he becomes another Ben Street, a guy who can score well at the AHL level but doesn't really translate to the NHL. I think it's pretty unlikely though

I voted Granlund on the basis that he is an NHL player right now. Probably tops out at a middle six player whereas Hickey has a higher ceiling. My feeling is that this demonstrates that subtle players don't get the recognition from fans that they get from coaches. Granlund has Hartley's trust for a good reason! Solid player who I still think might provide scoring depth that all teams need.

I've been voting Hickey for both rounds 6 and 7 (and run offs) because his arc seems to be steeper than any other prospect, which is so important in the year after the draft.

However, this isn't to say I've soured on Granlund at all. I think he has all the tools to be a solid NHL player for a decade, but I'm just not sure in what capacity. He looked great on his first call up last season (9 points in his first 10 games), and then he just disappeared a little more each game and call up after that.

So I'm puzzled. Is he a top six in waiting or a utility player that can move up and down the roster when needed. Is he Frolik Jr? Backlund's replacement? Competition for Bennett or competition for Jooris?

Hickey is also a really good prospect. I saw an article where he was named the biggest riser from the 2014 draft. Total steal out of the AJ
