Is the Rock a full cast member or just appearing in the pilot?

Unless it's a Ned Stark thing, he is the main character.

I liked it.
Nothing earth shattering, but seems like it will provide a good 30 minutes of entertainment on Sunday. The comparisons to entourage make sense, just a feel good guys show; cars, sports, girls etc.

Really like it a lot, the opening scene was pretty shocking, sad and funny.
Also the fact that in the first episode the Rock completely screwed himself to try to get a client
There's some solid talent in this show.
Lots of boobies
and some really interesting characters.
I loved the scene where the player phoned the owner to apologize for beating up a person in the bar, and the owner thanked him for the apology hung up the phone and promptly ordered him to be cut.

I didn't mind this show the first time I saw it, when it was called Entourage.

The Entourage comparisons are pretty much dead on, and it looks like it could end up with the exact same problem as Entourage: seemingly only one character you'll care about. Entourage is pretty much horrible without Ari, and this show likely won't be good without The Rock. Target audience was made abundantly clear with 3 sex scenes in not even the first 20 minutes of the show.

The show will last solely because of the football premise.

There was a show called Necessary Roughness and it was terrible. It lasted 3 seasons even though it barely touched on football. It was about a divorced woman trying to find love with a football coach. Also, HBO is not afraid of the NFL like ESPN is. Furthermore, HBO's Ballers is using real NFL team names so it's safe to assume there is a contract and understanding in place.

I thought they only used city names? Like 'I'm playing for Miami', instead of the Dolphins.
Though I may remember it wrong

There's no deal in place at all between the NFL and HBO. HBO just isn't scared of the NFL doing anything because at worst they'll simply stop doing Hard Knocks....except that every team in the NFL would greatly appreciate Hard Knocks going away (they are now forced to do it by the league). So unlike when ESPN cancelled Playmakers, HBO can't lose much. The NFL being petty like it is could simply have shut ESPN out from NFL coverage going forward. That's why they caved, and why HBO will not.
The Packers logo (and name), Dolphins logo (and name), the Bucs name...all used in the premier. They even got "Sorry Ass Jacksonville" correct too even if it's not the technically correct name.

There has to be a deal in place. HBO is using official logos, and using full team names, Miami Dolphins, Green Bay Packers, etc. You can't use that without permission from the NFL.
