Should they have taken a lesser amount to trade Cammalleri at the deadline rather than letting him walk for nothing.

Probably depends on the phrasing of the question. If it was phrased that way - I can understand the reaction because it was loaded. If the question was more "Can you explain what happened at the deadline with Mike Cammalleri and the decision made not to trade him" - gives him the room to answer the question meaningfully without backing him into a corner.

I can't remember exactly how Dan worded it back then, so I'm not sure.

I'm completely indifferent to the Cammalleri non-trade after initially being outraged. Seeing how soft the market was, I don't really care that we missed out at a 3rd and a 5th or whatever. Don't need to be doing favors for other teams just because a guy's contract is expiring. Clearly no one was really interested, no big loss. Especially considering the 2nd we got in return for Andre Racicot, that alone made that deadline a huge win.

This wasn't as candid as past ones. The main thing was semi confirmation that the goalie situation is in play and that they are not likely going to move up.
