Are they going to challenge him with a one-year contract like they did with Jeff Petry?

5 years at 5.9 per year. Oilers logic of a short term contract.

Looking like a 2 year bridge extension for Yakupov in Edmonton. Close but not quite done.

Surely Yak doesn't want to stay. He'll likely get a decent 'bridging' contract elsewhere. What's in it for Yak?

I'm guessing an AAV around $3.0M.
Oilers though... so wouldn't surprise me to see 2yrs @ $4.5M each.

Finishing the last two season -33 and -35, perhaps he expects to make up the salary difference on the PGA tour.

Can't be for more than $2.5, even that should be a stretch for the league's worst +/-.

Awesome. He's not very good at hockey. I love that the Oilers have untouchables on that team. You'd think that with the seasons they have had, everyone would be expendable. With that way of thinking they'll always be a bottom feeder.

Not sure why he would sign a bridging contract when he has seen all of the other first round picks getting 6x6 deals, surely that is the standard second contract in Oiler land??

His TDPG wasn't quite high enough to qualify for a 6x6. This bridge contract will allow him to work on getting that number up.

I'd expect Yakupov extension to be in the range of 2.3 to 2.5 million per season give or take.
