Youths Attack Man in Coventy Hills with Machete
What the hell is wrong with people?
http://calgaryherald.com/news/crime/...machete-attack
I don't pretend to completely know the justice system, but why is the kid not charged with attempted murder?

I think a murder (or attempt) charge takes a bit more investigating usually. The can press the easy charges and then upgrade/add once more is known of the attack and severity of injuries.
My racists wheel of fortune says these guys were Sudanese, they've been known to use them in gang violence even in north america.

Man crazy. The area was never that bad when I lived there a year ago. Little punks. If I still lived there I would be walking my dog with a hammer.

There are a number of corrections officers who live in the area. This guy is in for it when he gets to prison.

Only a gun can provide safety.

Just because there is an occasional random nut, doesn't mean we have to go all USA thanks.

Was this just a random attack (article didn't say) or did they know the guy?
Pretty brutal. Kid deserves a long sentence.

Sometimes I think, "Man, America sure has it figured out. Everyone can conceal and carry, and everyone is can protect themselves". Then I look at the gun murder rate per capita, and I quickly remember how messed up this country is.
A part of me wishes that guy had a gun on him and the minute those punks threatened him, he threatened them right back.
But then Canada would be as messed up as the USA.
There is no easy solution here.

Unfortunately the kid will never see true jail time. He is a young offender which means community service and maybe some sort of weekend jail time. The victim will get some sob letter that the little Pr!cks lawyer will draw up saying "Sorry about your disfigured face sir but I have learned my lesson by picking up trash on the side of the road for a few months for a few hours each week". Than in a few years he will kill somebody outside a nightclub and be locked away in adult jail for a few more years and the cycle will continue.

The crown could also push to have him tried as an adult.

I'm pretty sure he meant that sarcastically.

This sounds pretty logical based on our system but it sounds like the offender has been in trouble before (he was charged with two counts of breaching conditions) and I'd like to think that based on the severity of this incident the system will be more aggressive and potentially pursue a higher charge and put him on trial as an adult.

The system needs to learn to deal with the real problem. Sociopathy and psychopathy. Only someone with no conscience hacks an innocent person in the face. Whatever punishment is dealt is irrelevant if he never attains a conscience.

I don't buy that at all. I don't buy that all crime is based in mental illness.
