Default World of Warships now in closed Beta

I wasn't a fan of World of Tanks and I thought World of Warplanes was a dud.

This game is more in my wheel house. Now in open Beta

the game does look great, but I worry that its more along the lines of World of Tanks in big ships.

I would almost like a game where you have to crew your ship. You would need a Captain, a navigation officer, and a gunnery officer for each type of weapons system.

For a sub same idea.

for the aircraft carriers I would love to have a game that integrated with World of Warplanes so that you could launch strikes during naval battles.

This game looks really pretty and cool, but I have a feeling that its like tanks, and individual steering his own ship and pointing and shooting.

That over the iceberg salvo was quite the shot.

I wanted to love World of Tanks so bad ... but it was just so horrible at the entry level that grinding to a better tank was just too painful.

Yeah I didn't last long in World of Tanks because of the grind especially when you start with such a weak tank and die so often.

TBH I'm more of a strategic War Games person then a first person tactical gamer anyways.

I love the idea of commanding a ship or even a fleet or a ocean.

But driving around shooting isn't interesting to me, I'm old and don't have the reflexes.

Try a game called Battlestations Midway. I remember playing it at the time and commanding the ships there. Loads of fun... but not as graphically impressive anymore.

Steam has it on sale every so often.

Could you imagine the sheer monotiny of being stuck at any of those positions for an extended period of time?

"Well, we've been sailing for Midway for the last hour, but boy, I sure am happy to be the gunnery officer of this ship".

or if you were stuck as the navigation officer in a heated open sea battle? "Well the captain has the helm and we're just trying not to die, but I'm cool just staring at this map for a while longer. Let me know if I need a life vest".

There is a reason games let you control the entire vehicle rather than just 1 component. Imagine World of Tanks if you were stuck as the munitions officer? That game would be worse than it already is

I still have never experienced as awesome of a game as Red Storm Rising, the old PC game from the late 80s. Hunting down other subs, surface Russian ships, so much fun.

I will probably give this one a go... I still play world of tanks off and on but the grind has really started to get to me.. I made it up to several tier 5-7 tanks and that is where it starts to really get fun. Have to play with people, as a loner it can get boring. I think this game will be a lot like that... need to play as a unit to make a difference.
