Default Can't get rid of Pop-ups/Website Redirects

Had Norton but it expired, didn't renew it like an idiot. I keep getting all kinds of popups and website redirects that make using the internet unbearable. I thought I found the source of the problem, but it just keeps on coming.

I recall there being a few good free antivirus programs but can't remember what they are.

Malwarebytes.org should help.

Check the programs and features section of the control panel. Sort them by date and see if anything out of the ordinary has been installed recently. Also, check your browser(s) for rouge plugins, addons or extensions. Get a copy of Avast Free antivirus and use it - turn off the sounds though!

I remember when a girlfriends father was complaining about this. The pop-ups and redirects were porn related. He acted very well. That was a fun/awkward moment of my life.

It's still a good idea to get a free anti-virus (I use Bitdefender) and install the free Malwarebytes as well. I also use SuperAntispyware.

To the OP typically these types of malware are installed by the user, unintentionally of course but this is by far the most common issue with these kinds of problems.

Anytime you install anything, carefully read what its asking in the install window, always choose custom or advanced install, never just click next next next ok!

Viruses are pretty much an afterthought these days, because malware has been so successful at getting people to agree to them being installed.

This article nicely compiles the common problems most people run into, well worth the read.
