Calgary Flames @NHLFlames
The #Flames have recalled centre Drew Shore from the @AHLFlames

Quote:
The Calgary Flames announced today that they have recalled centre Drew Shore from the Adirondack Flames of the American Hockey League.

Shore, who was acquired by the Flames in a trade on January 9th, was drafted by the Florida Panthers in the second round (44th overall) in the 2009 NHL Draft. This season, the 23-year-old has 30 points in 35 games with the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League and is tied for 11th in AHL scoring. And was named to the roster for the 2015 AHL All-Star Classic.

Shore has played 67 career NHL games for Florida recording eight goals and 12 assists. He also played for Team U.S.A. in the 2014 World Championships where he recorded two points (1G, 1A) in eight games.

Does he slot in on RW? I can't really see him taking a centre spot unless another injury occurs. And I guess he is up here for good based on his waiver situation in a couple games?

Love that we're going to get a chance to see him this early. I hope he makes a good first impression.

I'm not sure what the rush was to call him up. I'd rather he played a few games in the AHL so we can see what we have. Now we're locked into the guy, or we lose him.

I would have thought so too, but apparently he looked good in the Adirondack practices.

It is still possible for the Flames to send him back down if he doesn't play any games.

Excellent news. Looking forward to watching him play. Very solid 2-way player that can chip in on offense. I think Granlund goes down once Jooris comes off IR, which may be a while from the sounds of things.

They've seen play a ton, hence trading for him. No point in waiting, he's got to make his case to stick with the team at some point.

Just because us fans haven't seen him that also doesn't mean that paid scouting professionals haven't seen his game prior to the trade. They did their homework while he was in Florida and probably know what type of player they have.

Still never seen him play but if he's NHL ready and all it costs us is money and a seemingly lesser prospect that is a fantastic trade.

BTW the constant turnover of young guys for a few spots on the roster is a good thing, i'm sure the competition is somewhat fierce for ice time in calgary. a damned good environment IMO for a team that's building on the back of emerging talent.

In addition to a goalie at some point, I wouldn't be surprised to see Granlund go back down. He's played well, but it appears as if Shore is, at worst, a lateral move talent wise, but an upgrade in size. An area Treliving/Burke said would be addressed with this team. Which is a small team.

I am surprised that he has been called up so quickly, we don't appear to have much room on the game night roster at the moment. Does he knock someone out of the line up or is this giving him chance to get used to the system before we make a trade and open up some space?

He came to the Flames because he was ready for the NHL but Florida didn't have a spot. They might have told him and Tallon that they would call him up as soon as possible. It's possible that they called him up so quickly to honour some agreement.

Hope not, a lot of people here will hate him for "not earning" it
