anyone done lasik or icl in Calgary?
I'm looking to get lasik/lasek or icl to get my vision fixed.
I've been trying contacts but they're all making me dizzy.
has anyone got that done here or know of any reliable docs/clinics?

Same Dr and clinic but done a little over a year ago. Only thing I regret is not doing it sooner. No complication, dry eyes or star bursts.

Got Dr. Demong to do my LASIK himself back in 1999 when I was 20. Haven't worn glasses or had any complications since. I would highly recommend him as he was (maybe still is?) the most accredited eye surgeon in Calgary.
Trust your eyes only to those most educated and with the most to lose (reputation). Pay a bit more and get a top doctor. Don't be cheap and go with the lowest price associate doctor. That is my only advice.

I just don't know how you all good sit there conscious with your eyes wide open getting laser cut? Is that how it goes down. Please tell me I am wrong. I was thinking about it while hearing an ad on the radio on Sunday.

I had ICL done last year with Dr. Gimbel. The worst part was getting the laser iridotomy done before the actual procedure. The surgery itself was quick and relatively painless.
Vision-wise, if I'm really super tired my night vision is slightly affected. Otherwise I have no complaints at all.

Have costs for the procedure stabilized / standardized much at all? I remember the old ads saying about $ per eye, and then you get the consultation and it basically doubles or something. It seems to be so routine now that you'd think the price would not vary so much person to person.

I did ICL at Gimbel 2 months ago. Best decision ever. And as Momo says, the iridotomy was the worst part. Surgery was pretty easy. I went with Dr Kassab though. She was amazing.
ICL is a lot more expensive, but my eyes were pretty bad. So it was really the only option. And still cheaper than 50+ years of contacts and glasses.

Did the Lasik advanced wavefront in early 2012 with Leger.
My vision is not as good as it was like 2 years ago, and I'm thinking of going in for a consultation to see what they think. It's still very passable, if I had to estimate, I'd say I've regressed from 20/20 vision to -0.5 or -.75 in the last 3 years.

Had PRK with Gimbel back in 2008 with no issues ("textbook" was how a doctor described my healing to a med student). As one other has mentioned, the smell when your corneas are zapped is a little odd.
Can ICL remove the need for reading glasses, or is there nothing that can be done? They told me I would start to need glasses again around the age of 40.

ICL with Gimbel back in 2011. Went from 20/3000 (no, not joking) to 20/15 in both eyes.
Dr. Kassab did my surgery, and she was just awesome. Highest recommendation.
And I still grin ear to ear every day I wake up and can read the clock without glasses, contacts, or 1.5 inches of space between the clock and me.

PRK at Gimbel with Dr. VanWestenbrug. Done about 1.5 years ago. 3 week heal/6 weeks until dryness subsided
Great outcome, healed fast for PRK, have 20/15 vision (or 15/20?), and have no evidence that any procedure was done.
I had a relatively weak prescription (only wore for driving and movies).

I had lasik done with Dr. Demong in 2011.
My vision improved to better than 20/20 in the aftermath. 20/15?
Expensive but worth it. You don't want to penny pinch with your eyes.

You don't really have much of a choice, they stick a ring in your eye so you can't close it. All you see is a little red light followed with the smell of burning flesh. Don't really feel anything.
@OP: I used Dr. Mitchell in Chinook Mall about 14 years ago. Lasted me about 10 years and I'm back on glasses/contacts, with a really light prescription for the last 4. Best money I spent and I'll likely do it again if my eyes degrade to a point where it makes sense again.

You gotta get over it. We live in highly advanced technological times. I watched videos before getting my procedure. It's a bit gross but so is any surgery.
Also, I was never in pain or discomfort. It's quick, blurry, wet with eyedrops, and the only downside is smelling the cooked flesh (I exhaled each time after the first go).

Had my eyes done at Mitchell in 2012 at age 31.
Wish I did it years before - it's the best money I've ever spent. My surgery was around $3600. They do have flexible payment options, and you can use your employee health benefits for vision care, plus your HSA if you have one.
I checked out LASIK MD and Gimbel. LASIK MD felt like a slick sales pitch, Gimbel were not confident in their ability to fix. Mitchell was the right choice for me. no regrets.
My side effects are that my night vision is a little skewed only when my eyes are dry.
Recovery was about a week.

Had custom wavefront lasik with Dr. Leger in 2006. Great results, the best money I've ever spent.
The smell is like burning hair I thought. On the whole, pretty quick and some discomfort after but not too bad. I was glad to be done with the gel eyedrops iirc.
