Default So I started getting random texts from email addresses

It appears a number of friends of mine are in the same boat.

The last one was from naglesgl@hotmail.co.jp

Any idea how to make these stop, or get some sort of retribution? At least with telemarketing scams I can keep them on the line for hours toying with them.

Thoughts?

I know Bell has a feature where you can report it:

Who is your cell provider?

Some providers have an email to SMS option, which I think can be blocked. Way back before smart phones and notifications, I used to have hockey scores "emailed" to my phone via text message. I would enter my email address as (my 10 digit number)@fido.ca and set up some alrts via Yahoo or something like that, and the scores would come up as SMS messages on my phone. Fido eventually started charging extra for this service, but now push notifications make it redundant anyway.

Long story short : perhaps your provider can disable email to SMS, if that's how the messages are getting to you.

Don't send them anything back. Not worth the risk giving them a response with any sort of digital information.

Now, from a dummy email account on a public computer - now we're talkin!
