Default Things to do in Calgary

My brother moved to Calgary a few months ago, he doesn't really know anyone in the city (he's currently roommates with our cousin who works shift work and he doesn't have a ton in common with).

He's a small town boy, and isn't a huge fan of bigger cities. I believe partly because he doesn't really know what is out there to do and see.

So I'm thinking for his Christmas gift, getting him tickets/passes to things to do around Calgary.

This brings me to the big question:

What is there to do and see?

I'm thinking a pass to the zoo, to go up the Calgary Tower... but in all honesty I don't know.

In a new city I just wander, which isn't my brother's thing. We also are very opposite, so things that I'd do, are pretty much out of the question (like tickets to a Flames game).

What would you recommend for new people in the city?

What are his interests? Is he looking to meet new people or just do things by himself around the city.

If he's not a city guy? What about stuff out in the mountains? Snowshoeing or skiing in winter, hiking, tons of stuff to do not far out.

Zoo/Tower is fine but it's really a one off thing.

Is he much of a drinker? Scotch/Wine/Beer tasting some night perhaps? Could get him tickets for that for Christmas.

Jubilations is a fun night out too.

Thanks guys,

I think I've got it. Just need him to confirm when he'll be on vacation next.

Krunkstyle, you're a genius!

The tower is pretty lame nowadays. There's five or six buildings taller than it now. Just send him to one of the law offices in the Petro Can tower or the Bow, haha.

With the great weather, I definitely recommend skating at Olympic Plaza after the sun goes down. The ice is well maintained, there's great hot chocolate a stone's throw away and the with Christmas lights at city hall, it's really a lovely ambience.

Calgary's hottest club is Frankie and Johnny's.
