Default Cell Provider advice/experience

My wife needs a new phone.

She was on a bell contract which ended. She is now month to month (or so she says, I should really check that).

I am looking a moving to cheaper providers, she never answers calls or texts anyway.

Has anyone had experience/advice regarding low costs providers?

We will need to get her a phone as well, most likely an iPhone as it can then be tied into our kids iPad (much like mine).

Are you still in Sylvan? If so, Wind et al would be out.

I'd go with the Koodo plan that is mentioned in this forum. $55 for everything is about as you are going to get from the Big 3.

When I pick a provider, I first look at coverage. For me, I'm with Telus. I travel a lot for work, so I need to coverage.

My wife is with Virgin, but when we go to Saskatchewan, it's hit or miss. I think Virgin runs off the Bell towers, so I don't understand the issue. Unless Bell doesn't have a tower agreement with SaskTel.

So yah...I would look at coverage first then roaming charges if you leave your "home" area.

Then look at plans, and then finally hardware.

At the end of the day, the carriers don't care which phone you get. They want you in the contract paying monthly. They don't make squat on phones.

Coverage > Plans > Phones

Coverage > Plans > Phones
Yeah my wife rarely leaves the main areas and if she does it is to rural areas in Alberta for kids hockey. I reckon Virgin will have enough coverage.

For us it is Plans>phones>coverage.

Is your wife happy with Virgin?

Other than being spotty in Saskatchewan, she's pretty happy with Virgin.

No issues throughout Alberta. We've been all over: Southern (Lethbridge and south), Edmonton (east and west of), Grande Prairie.

I went from Rogers for a 3 years to Telus for 3 then Bell for 2 then Virgin 2 and now I'm with Koodoo.

Hard to say what's the best as technology has changed so much. But Koodoo/Virgin/Bell/Telus all are supposed to run on the same towers. Haven't had any problems with reception and I'm all over the city for work. I should also note that I'm in Edmonton. Maybe it's my phone but my LTE with koodoo hasn't been anything special.
