Default Share your favourite techie software/utilities/sites

Being employed in the IT industry and also geeking at home, I'm always on the lookout for things to help me perform tasks/jobs faster, easier, and with better results. So, knowing there's others out there who do this as well, I thought I'd create this thread where we can share our favourite software/utilities/sites that we use.

This thread is about all platforms - Post for Windows, Mac, Linux, whatever.

I'll kick it off with Tera Copy
Software vendor: CodeSector
Platform I use it on: Windows.
Features:
- Copy files faster
- Pause and resume file transfer activities
- Error recovery
- Interactive file list
- Shell integration

This utility is easy to use, friendly, and always produces great results. If you're not a fan of command line based copy tools, give it a try.

Looking forward to see what other great stuff people share!

www.Ninite.com - Invaluable when reformatting. Big time saver.

Chrome Remote Desktop: Just discovered this one and it works quite well, control my home computer from work or my phone.

Hazel (Mac) helps you set actions on files or folders. My uses include:
  • Automatically move screenshots to a folder instead of dumping it on my desktop (a mac behaviour I hate)
  • Watch a dropbox folder I dump all my work receipts into that automatically sorts it into a tax folder split into months, so when doing my taxes I can look at my whole year sorted by month
  • Automatically delete any item in my downloads folder older than 2 months (unless tagged)
  • Sync my iCloud Documents folder with a dropbox folder just in case iCloud ever decides to screw me
  • Create a folder that only keeps files until midnight every day for those little files you just need for a few minutes and stack up like crazy
  • Sync my folder of fonts between 3 computers, so if I'm working on a design project I can hop from desktop, to laptop, to home desktop.

Alfred is another Mac app that is one of the first things loaded on a new computer.
  • Launch apps and files by just typing
  • Move files around or email them
  • Clipboard manager that brings up a list of the last 20 things you copied in a hot key'd list
  • Launch workflows both stupid (type movie name and get rotten tomatoes score and official youtube trailer) and useful (enter a calendar event or reminder by just typing a sentence)
  • Launch a url with a hotkey
  • Merge finder windows into one
  • Search gmail that opens a browser window with the term already entered

Sysinternals:
Procmon, Procexp and Autoruns. That and a few brain cells will solve mysterious crashes, and find malware way faster than any scan.

And pstools really helps get things done.
