Default Barbed Wire

Anybody ever tried to jump a barbed wire fence? Not the kind that keeps cows in, but like a chain-link fence with an angled barbed wire portion at the top. It looks like it would be super easy to me. Just throw a jacket or blanket on top and go nuts. Am I missing something? Maybe it's just to keep people out that would scale the fence impulsively, but it looks to me with about five seconds of planning you could get over barbed wire without any trouble at all.

Go give it a try. Before you attempt this though, stick your tongue against the frozen metal pole.

I'd refrain from wearing a tie when doing so - they can really get in the way.

So if you have been drinking it's not that easy. I didn't have a blanket or a jacket but it shortened my walk home so I hopped the fence. The problem comes in when try to grab the barb wire portion because it is pretty slack. So when you try to swing a leg over your hands shift, you lose your balance and fall head first over the fence likely knocking yourself out.

My stomach went into the barbs on the fence creating 4 two or three inch long cuts. Probably should have got stitches and a shot but I was drunk. I just kept walking home. Still have the scars. The worst part was I was now inside the barb wire field and had to get out. I managed to use the locked gate to climb over on other side which didn't have the barb wire on top.

So remember don't drink and climb barb wire fences.

If such fences were easy to get over, they would have been redesigned into something that was harder to get over.

Similar story to GGG's, but not as much collateral damage. Gashed a leg, tore my pants, got some frostbite, had a wicked hangover.

So yes, they're easy to get over.

Now razor wire. That's a whole 'nother kettle of fish.

I'd be curious to find out if anybody has a barbed wire story that didn't involve alcohol. I know my story would not qualify.

Hahaha, that's awesome. You're probably the exact kind of guy they are trying to keep out; yet the most likely to try anyway.

I see it almost every time I leave a stamps game...

People heading north try to short cut across the Track & Field pitch only to get stopped by the fence and barbed wire top near the tennis courts.

Its hilarious watching a drunk / overweight Rider fan trying to climb over or under.

Makes my day even after a loss...

Is there going to be another thread about how dangerous it is to pee on an electrified fence?

I think it depends what kind, straight line single would be easy but straight line double or triple much harder. Circular almost impossible.

Not hard at all if you're sober and take your time to place your hands/feet before you push over.

No reason; just a random thought/question.
