PSN network down once again
I guess they didn't learn from the previous attacks. They make billions from the play station, but can't even secure their own network.
I hope it doesn't last as long as the last one.

Everything I've read so far is it is offline due to attempted hacking (the group also targeted Blizzard, Riot Games, and others).
Don't sensationalize anything before more information is available.

This is a result from a DDOS attack which happens all of the time. They haven't been "hacked" at all.
edit: Maybe move this to the tech talk forum?

The "Lizard squad" has already taken credit for taking the network down and the president has acknowledged it.

This is the best explanation:
http://www.joystiq.com/2014/08/24/ps...o-ddos-attack/
Quote:
It's worth noting that this attack, if true, is not comparable to the 2011 PSN outage. Whereas the incident three years ago was due to compromised systems and an intrusion into Sony servers, a DDoS attack is much simpler, and basically floods the targeted network with data so that it can't make new connections to legitimate users.
|
I don't think Arya Stark would be alone in assuming this is another hack attempt, based on history. Sony hasn't really done enough to let customers know what's going on. In addition, there are some counter-measures they could have taken beforehand to avoid this.

Is the web-based store also down? I don't know if it's considered part of PSN.
https://store.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com
(I can't access from my work browser)

You can access the store via the website still - but doesn't look like you can sign in quite yet.
But yeah, the PSN hasn't been the only target lately. WoW, LoL, GW2, Wildstar and others were all hit very recently.
This has nothing to do with your fanboyish claims that "sony didn't learn anything" and everything to do with the reality of today's internet nerds "done wrong" by companies that live off profits.

I think Netflix exists outside PSN as it's own thing -- you need to access the store to download the app, but after that it functions separately.

Here's a thread about it on Reddit.
And some more ridiculousness.
Quote:
The hackers are threatening the president of Sony Online Entertainment using hashtags such as #PrayForFlight362 (which he is on) and tweeting 9/11 videos. Sick !@#$%^&.

Yeah, this is stupid.
