Default The Top Five Movies You Have Never Watched

I just wanted to switch things up a bit, so how about a list of the top five movies you have never seen. I am sure we all have a list of movies we've either meant to watch at some point, but have never gotten around to it, or movies we never want to see.

So here's my list:

1. Blade Runner - I have no excuse for not watching this yet. I picked up the 5-disc blu-ray, but could never settle on which version to watch first. My expectations have always been sky high for it, even though I've never actually watched it. Another issue it that it never seems to be on television, where it's usually easier to watch the random movie, rather than planning on watching a DVD.

2. Gone With the Wind - I am sure many people haven't seen it, so it might make many lists, but the reason I place it so high is because I never plan on watching it. Gone With the Wind holds no interest for me, and I rarely find people from current generations that hold the movie in such a high regard. My parents may love it, but I doubt it's for me. So it has the distinction of being the only movie listed I'll never watch.

3. A Clockwork Orange - Aside from Barry London and parts of Eyes Wide Shut I have seen all of Kubrick's work, with the exception of Clockwork. I am sure I'll get to it eventually, as once again I do own the blu-ray. Many of my friends love the movie, but it always seemed "too strange" of a concept for my taste. Another one I will try and watch soon, but haven't yet.

4. Most Pixar movies since Finding Nemo - The only Pixar/animated movies I've actually seen since about 2000 were Toy Story 3, The Lego Movie, and The Simpsons Movie. I don't really have any reason for it (considering all the crap I've watched over the year), but I just don't like animated movies like I used to. Maybe if I have kids someday I'll go back to them, but I should really watch The Incredibles and Up one of these days.

5. The Incredible Hulk - I was having trouble thinking of my fifth choice, but this is really the only comic book movie I have never seen (aside from Jonah Hex). I like everyone involved as well, just wasn't really into the whole Marvel kick at the time; it even took me a few years to watch the first Iron Man movie. Another movie I've planned on watching occasionally, but just don't see a reason why I need to watch it that badly.

HM: True Romance, Jackie Brown, Blazing Saddles, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (only because it's Fincher), Raging Bull, American Graffiti, among others.

Most due to lack of time, etc.

1. Schindler's List - I've avoided this one for years because I know the subject matter will disturb me. But I must see it because I also know it will be amazing.

2. Inception - I just haven't gotten around to it. I think I have it buried on my PVR somewhere.

3. Seven Samurai - I wish this would get played on a movie channel, etc. I've never seen it anywhere, even for sale.

4. Maltese Falcon - I like Bogart, must make time to see this one sometime soon.

5. Se7en - I know the ending, which sucks and is probably why I just haven't gotten around to it.

1) 2001
2) Alien(s)
3) One Flew Over the ####oos Nest
4) Casablanca
5) American History X

Funny, as I've actually been on a kick to clear up some of my "must watch list in the last few months and crossed off The Shining, Good Will Hunting, City of God, and Basic Instinct.

My list is really small overall, but there are some classics that I have yet to see. For example these are the only films on AFI's or IMDB's top 100 movies I have yet to see.

The Third Man
West Side Story
From Here to Eternity
Doctor Zhivago
North by Northwest
The Treasure of the Sierra Madre
Double Indemnity
Mutiny on the Bounty
Giant
The Grapes of Wrath
Ben Hur

Oh, and trackercowe, you need to seriously catch up on some good movies sir.

Is it weird that this list actually angers me? You'd better be doing something valuable with your time like volunteering or spending immense amounts of quality time with your kids to excuse missing these ones.

For this list I googled "top movies of all time" and clicked on the first link:
http://www.imdb.com/list/ls055592025/

From that list, these are the top 5 that I have not seen:

1. The Godfather
3. Schindler's List
4. Raging Bull
5. Casablanca
6. Gone with the Wind

I've only seen 25 of the 100 movies on that list. Thankfully that list is just somebody's opinion. Gladiator was on the list, and I really liked it and thought it was good, but in the top 100 of all time? That's a stretch.

So do you apparently then, I've seen all of thouse aside from half of Dr. Zhivago (tried it out because of David Lean and Omar Sharif), but it wasn't my type of movie. I've seen the rest of them though, and love about half of them. Shame on you good sir for not watching Treasure of the Sierra Madre, The Third Man, and North by Northwest! I even watched West Side Story... Natalie Wood... yum!

Also went to IMDB on this one. Starting at #1 on this list and working down, I apparently need to watch :

#28 Some Like it Hot
#42 The Philadelphia Story (this one really was on my list to watch)
#55 The Apartment
#67 It Happened one Night (I'm skipping this one, buying myself another spot)
#79 Grapes of Wrath (its John Ford, actually looking forward to it)
#84 Nashville (skipping it again, don't like Altman)
#89 Stagecoach (Ford again)

The films on most people's lists here are going to be a pleasure for you to watch. Some qualify as watch immediately. Lawrence of Arabia, watch on a big screen. It's actually been worked out that this movie couldn't be filmed today, as the budgetary restrictions would be too high, and it couldn't be made CGI. Really too many great films to comment on here.

I wish there was a way to steer some of the other lists toward what they should be watching, but it's really too ungainly. Someone somewhere indicated Color of Money as a favorite, but gave no indication of ever watching the Hustler. Every time I see Harry Potter on a list, an angel loses it's wings.

Hoodwinked by Buff. I clicked on the link that you used as a shortcut, and it turns out that was just some dude's list. Well played. I will by that Floridian Swamp land from you, after all. No time to check the actual IMDB list at the moment. The five that I have arn't bad though.

Haha I know, it's bad, no excuse though.

At least I've seen West Side Story and North by Northwest...

May I suggest you start with The Apartment? Billy Wilder film starring Jack Lemmon and Shirley Maclaine. Quite a risqué story at the time all things considered, and an absolutely wonderful movie.

The Original AFI Top 100 from 1998: http://www.afi.com/100years/movies.aspx

From that list, the five highest that I haven't seen are:
  1. Singin' in the Rain
  2. Sunset Blvd.
  3. All About Eve
  4. Chinatown
  5. The Grapes of Wrath

The Updated 10th Anniversary List from 2007: http://www.afi.com/100years/movies10.aspx

I don't do as well on that list:
  1. Singin' in the Rain
  2. Vertigo (I might have seen this, I'm not sure)
  3. City Lights
  4. The Searchers
  5. Sunset Blvd.

I've seen so many shows that pay tribute to Chinatown, that I feel like I've seen it ("She's my sister AND my daughter!"). I really should watch it some day.

I also need to watch more Hitchcock.

I think it would be awesome if Buff and OutOfTheCube made a project of watching the movies on their not seen lists then doing (or re-doing) their top 5 list.

Clockwork Orange - Started it a couple times, didn't get far. I'm sure I'll try again soon
The Graduate - Young Dustin Hoffman bugs me
The Bicycle Thief - I had it spoiled, so I never bothered
Bridge on the River Kwai - which is just ridiculous, because I love WW2 movies
On The Waterfront - I know the general story, and it always just seemed like something that wouldn't age well, so I didn't watch it.

Huh? What is there to spoil in that film? The plot isn't really the main focus in that film, it's the character transformations.
