Default Gaming in the Office

Thinking of organizing a lunch time, once a week gaming session within my office. Most of the office has pretty capable machines and I would limit it to LAN only. Anyone else do this? Any advice for convincing management and not pissing off IT?

Will probably play a FPS free to play game or maybe wait till the steam summer sale and get something cheap from that.

If you're trying to avoid pissing off IT, you better be inviting them in your gaming session

Call it a "Team Building" session.

Steam probably won't work because IT probably blocks the ports for that.

Used to do this every Friday afternoon, sometimes it would start quite a bit before noon lol. Used to involve a lot of beer and foosball breaks too, and a BBQ for lunch.

If management needs to be convinced then you're probably not going to get it going (since they're obviously jerks), but it's no different than going out for drinks or a team building lunch or going out to shoot pool or anything else teams do for team building. It's awesome, especially if you're within earshot of each other.

Team Fortress 2 works well for this. Free and easy to pick up but takes skill to be good. We used to either play among ourselves, or join a server if there wasn't many people that wanted to play.

Someone also suggested a racing game, I think the recent Sonic cart game looked really good for that kind of thing.

We used to do this with Nintendo DS and Mario Kart. Office is small enough we could all play from our desks. Good times. We should do that again.
