Default Lenovo Laptop Price Error - RFD finds out & chaos ensues

Didn't want to derail an existing laptop thread. Not sure if anybody saw the crazy Lenovo laptop price error over the weekend.

Lenovo Laptop Y410p 14" i7-4700MQ GT755M - $279 (regular $1,389)

Nearly a 300 page thread on RFD:

http://forums.redflagdeals.com/lenov...389-a-1484456/

There was no way they were going to honor the price and people got mad:

And this guy :

RFD is full of ridiculous free-loaders who think they're entitled to every damn thing.

Calling it a "bait and switch" is to laugh. The only mistake they made was how they handled their mistake.

The only reason they have any excuse to be upset is because the error was left up well after it was discovered and they started canceling orders. Otherwise, I agree that it's insane how much hate people are pouring at Lenovo for this.

This has happened at RFD like once a month for the past 10 years...

I don't recall a single instance of a website honoring a high-magnitude price error in that entire decade.

Actually Lenovo did! The article mentions that they did this in March in China and lost $16M (and honoured the orders).

The TV in my living room that I got from a Newegg price error a few months back says otherwise. Mind you the discount wasn't as much, but like Lenovo they cancelled the deal, but pressure from RFD and various outlets got them to change their stance. Newegg resolved the issue, and gave out various packages to thousands of customers who had initially purchased the television. I cared about that one a lot more though, since I had already given away my old TV after I had purchased the new one.

I actually did get in on this deal as well, and purchased both the $280 model and the one for $530. I didn't think I would end up getting the cheaper one, as there was no way they could manufacture such a large supply. I had nothing against them, and didn't make any fuss when my order was cancelled. But it took them so damn long to pull the deal off their website, that I got a little irritated. They also have yet to refund the $900 charge on my credit card, and haven't made any follow-up statements on when I should expect to see it. It seems it can take them months to refund prior purchases, and I simply will not wait that long.

They are handling the situation incredibly poorly, and should have done more to try and appease consumers. I honestly never expected anything from them, but their lack of care and attention to the matter has forced me to sign that petition. Now that's all I will do, but they need to learn from the constant price errors they continue to have.

This may be due to different laws in China forcing them to do so (or they weren't able to bribe the local communist official). I don't recall any online retailer honoring such a thing in Canada in all these years.

You would be incorrect.

http://forums.redflagdeals.com/neweg...ipped-1276765/

Their "Unit Price" was $1999.99. They ended up supplying them for $410+Taxes. Still not as good as the Lenovo deal, but Newegg was in a very similar situation and ended up coming through for customers and solving the problem.

Oh and just so I don't get labeled as an "ungrateful RFDer", I buy stuff from Newegg all the time now, in part because of how they settled the television price error. Now I know how dependable they can be.

I got in on the price error as well. My CC hasn't been charged, though the amount may be under authorization. I put in two separate orders not expecting to have them filled and they weren't. I also purchased it legitimately through my company website and that's what annoys me about this (not really entitlement). I normally don't side with the cheapos on RFD, but this is pretty stupid how the people at Lenovo handled it. They make great computers, but now I'm reluctant to do anything with them. The fact that they barely apologised and never gave any coupon in the e-mail response, was equally irritating. I hope somebody starts some type of issue about it. I'll sign wherever to make them change their practices.

Poor response on Lenovo's part on leaving the mistakes on the website for as long as it was.

That being said, it's amusing and depressing to look at the reactions of the outraged people. PR Stunt? Yes, now everybody is spewing hatred about Lenovo. Their marketing team should give themselves a pat on the back.
Compensation for a price error? Entitled little ####s.
And mining personal information? It's not like you submit shipping/credit info to anybody else on the internet after all.

I would have liked to gotten the laptop though. Lucky for my wallet I guess?

The posters at RFD thrive on these kinds of "mistakes". They live off it, like loose change to a homeless person.

A large group of CP'ers (myself included) ended up going to Spain for $92 all in following a pricing error and it was honoured.

Just also to add: Lenovo Canada is actually a Quebec registered company with a physical Quebec address located in Montreal so they are definitely bound to our Quebec Consumer Law which states clearly that ALL merchants with NO exceptions have to honour all consumer purchases at their advertised price regardless it was a mistake or whatever. What Lenovo Canada doing is dishonest, unscrupulous and downright shameful. Not only they are not doing the right thing which is honoring our purchases by their originally advertised price, they are not even responding to us customers. I have tried to call them, chat with them and email them and so far I have received ZERO response or feedback from Lenovo except with my order being cancelled BUT with my credit card still charged.

This is UNACCEPTABLE. This maybe tolerated in some countries that does not take much plight in people's welfare but this is Canada (especially in Quebec) where our basic consumer's rights is protected and upheld. This is not even an issue of customer retention; this is a direct violation of our basic rights to fair dealing as consumers. I would suggest also to call on our MP and MPP to bring to their attention of this fraudalent practice of Lenovo. This is a company, due to its e-commerce nature of business, their despicable practice is impacting people across Canada and we cannot let a company walk all over Canadian people like this. For any company, if they want to do business in Canada, they need to respect our laws otherwise they have a choice to LEAVE AFTER they either honour our purchases or refund our money.

Lenovo has offered $100 off the next Lenovo laptop purchase, which can be stacked on any other available coupons.

LOL @ "Will never purchase from Lenovo again". You wouldn't have if it wasn't for the deal and I'm betting next time a laptop is on sale for $279, you'll try buying again.
