Well son of a b, I coulnd't find a legit excuse to get out of jury duty so I took the gamble of it being canceled. Well I was wrong and its going ahead.
What should I expect to go through, processs / likelyhood of being selected.
Does your work pay you for it. If so enhoy the ride. When my mom went she showed up in the morning and was out by 10. Only about 20% of the people ended up having to stay longer and even then I don't think all of them ended up on a jury.

I'll need to ask my HR department about it, I would assume so but I also assumed that this would be canceled.
Bummer... I had it two weeks ago - forgot to check went down there and it was cancelled - best Friday ever!!! As far as work is concerned jury duty went until mid-afternoon no point coming in once it was done!
The one time I got suckered into it (between jobs so didn't have an excuse). I basically sat there for 3 hours and never got called up.
Funny thing was they didn't even ask questions to the people they called up. They would look at em and either one side would pass or they got put on the jury.
Luckily I had an excuse next time they tried.

When I was selected I told them I didn't feel I had the right to judge another persons guilt or innocence.
While it's true that I feel that way, it was also very effective. However, that was also the letter I responded to, not sure if it will work if you have to go to the interview.
I got the call once. I checked with work on the jury duty policy, my work's policy was you are paid in full.
I went down to the court house and there were around 200+ people there. Some are summoned, others are law students trying to get selected.
You watch a video about jury duty, the selection process, and how's it's your duty.
They do a row call and if you are absent without prior release they issue a warrant for your arrest.
They say how many trials they are selecting for (mine was 3). They then put everyone's name in bingo tumbler thing, they announce a few particulars of the trial and start drawing names.
If your name is called you go to the front and you have the opportunity to say why you can't do jury duty. Things like your job doesn't pay, you already have booked travel, things like that. The judge then decides if you have a valid reason or not.
If you're not excused then you stand in front of the lawyers and they decide if they want you or not. They can only ask certain questions, your age and your occupation. If they don't want you they can "challenge". If they challenge you are rejected and you go back and sit down. Each lawyer has a limited number of challenges, 6 or so, can't remember exactly.
Once the jury is selected, they do the whole thing again for the next one.
When I went I was called up twice and ended up as the 12th juror in a re-trial. A guy had thrown his father down the stairs and killed him. Funny thing is a lady from my work had been selected as an alternate juror for the first trial.
They pay you $10 a day and pay for transit. I'd go down around 10 and leave around 2.
I thought it would blow but I found it really interesting and I learned a little about law and how it pertains to your property. The dad was trying to throw the son out of his house, who had become drunk and belligerent.
What I learned was that if I own the property and I ask someone to leave, even if I had previously invited them in, and they don't they are trespassing. I can force ably, within reason, remove them and if they resist then they are assaulting me. I found the whole thing pretty interesting.

They don't immediately issue a warrant for your arrest, I'd know since I forgot to go the one time I got called for jury duty. Turned out my moms coworker was also called and relayed the story of the judge being pissed that I wasn't there.

Assuming that it didn't interfere with travel plans, or cost me money, I'd do jury duty. I think it'd be pretty interesting. Hopefully it wouldn't be on some gruesome murder like the one we're all still thinking about, or something that involved a child, but like what Radio described, I could see it being interesting.

Wow. I was called for jury duty last month. I got the dates mixed up, and realized on Sunday that I was supposed to report the previous Friday. I immediately called and left a message asking what my options were. They called me back and said that, in fact, that session had been cancelled, and I was off the hook.
I thought "great", and went on with life, never realizing how serious things could have been. I was dreading the inconvenience, but looking forwad to the experience. Will definitely be more careful with the dates if I ever get called again.

Glad the arrest warrant isn't immediate - I figure this must happen a lot.

So what ended up happening? Do they just hear you out and as long as there's any type of excuse and not a "I just didn't feel like it" then they cancel the warrant?

It was quite a few years ago that I went, maybe it's different now. But there were about 4 people that were no shows that had no previous reason why they couldn't be there and the judge said issue a warrant for their arrest. I am pretty sure it's not a sirens blaring, guns drawn type thing, it's more like if you get caught doing something else you'll be arrested...that's the way I perceived it anyways. Just relaying my experience with it...

I'm a prosecutor who does jury trials. If you don't show up, often they send you a letter for a 2nd jury trial after, and usually if you fail to show for that one too it's a warrant for you. However, it's up to the individual judge. If they're mad, or no one is showing up, they will have less patience than that.

I was supposed to show on Friday and realized Saturday evening that I'd missed it. I called the clerks office the Monday morning and apologized asking what happens next, they said if I did it again, they'd issue an arrest warrant.
