Canadian Restaurant Health Violations
Did anyone catch the special on CBC last night? Looks like Moxie's is serving up more than just fries. I have a friend who eats fast food often and is sick about once a month (if not more). Now I know why.
I think Calgary should have a system like Toronto where the health inspection score is posted on the front window of the restaurants for everyone to see

Id like that as well.
Posting a sign and an springs1 rating to boot.
Moxies is not the worst offender by far.
I had lunch at Marquee this week (old Crack alley) and had to send back the wife and I's meals as they both were cold and tasted like ass.
They could've cared less .

I had dinner (work related) with about six Calgary health inspector higher ups. They were insulted when I asked why we do not post letter grades here. They claimed they invade privacy. I was shocked by their attitude.

I love the letter grades on windows. It should be a no-brainer to have them.

I've heard nothing but bad about Marquee.

Don't ever bother eating out......between expensive food, required tipping the lack of ranch sauce and the fact you may have too much pop offered up to you it is a gongs how out there.....

having worked in over 10 restaurants in the past poor health standards is one of the main reasons I almost never eat out. High end or fast food joint you have no idea what is happening to the food most of the time, the best places are when the kitchen is open and you can see it from where you are eating.

My restaurant views were changed from a very young age; my first job, as a matter of fact, at McDonald's. I will never forget the Saturday night that I walked into the cooler to find one of my managers, who was off-duty and had stopped in drunk with his friends, in the cooler pissing in the 5 gallon bucket of pickles.
All staff ordered everything with no pickles for a very long time. I eat out all the time, but I almost never eat a meal out without thinking about that night.

When I was a young lad my folks owned/operated a small family restaurant. I remember what it took to keep the place clean, to properly handle food and waste, to keep rodents at bay....only then could they do the hard work or running a restaurant.
While I'm sure that they made their share of mistakes along the way, it amazes me to think that my folks (with only a couple of part-time staff) kept that place ship-shape and a safe, popular place to eat.
When I see pictures like the one in the CBC article of filthy kitchens in well staffed places, I want to start throwing punches. Cleanliness is not hard. Safety is not difficult. The only reason to have a 'dangerous' restaurant is laziness, stupidity, or a scary blend of both.

nage waza - if Albertan health inspectors said that then it sounds like the've got common sense.
All for improving standards but these checks always hammer the smaller independants so much more than the Moxies or Earls of this world...

If you had a health inspector run through your food handling practices at home you would likely fail.
In general restaurants that I worked at were pretty good and both employees and owners cared.
I don't like the posting of letter grades on windows because that is such little information. The info is available online in significant detail of what the offences are. Just putting a letter grade on there fails to differentiate between the guys who have rodents and insects (Not that bad) vs the guy who leaves the food out to thaw on the counter all afternoon. (much worse).
People might be more disgusted by insects and rodents but bad food handling practice will get you sick

Common sense? I can walk into a restaurant not knowing there are a stack of health violations. That makes more sense than posting their 'score' on the front door? I would keep walking.
I don't eat on line, I eat at the restaurant, where the scores should be posted. That makes sense.
I don't care if smaller independents get hammered - they simply need to clean up their processes.

That is pretty sick, did you report it? Perhaps they need to create a crime stoppers like system for people to report these violations, to enable younger people.

And Dennys wasn't inspected to help bring the score down? Shame.
