Wanna start a thread about the home reno shows. Used to like Mike Holmes but after almost ten years, I find his theatric a bit repetative. He doesn't have any new shows on lately but I did learn a lot watching his shows like the vapor barrier should be on the warm side.
Scott McGillivary's Income Property is good but I really doubt his budget is rigged. No way you can get as much done for the price he quoted on TV.
Property Brothers is now my 2nd favorite. I really their decor taste.
My favorite now is Love It or List It both the original one and the Vancouver one. I like the humor and chemistry between the two hosts and the amazing job the decorator can pull off.
I watched "to catch a contractor" or something like that on the weekend.
Adam Corolla and his steroid contractor friend, do a kind of a Chris Hansen sting. They hunt down contractors that did crappy or incomplete jobs. It wasn't as good as what I was hoping.

Sounds like Cowboy Builder, I think that is what it is called. It is a show from the UK that does the same thing.

I enjoy Mike Holme's shows, what I don't like are some of morons he picks up for "making it right".
I have ZERO sympathy for people who buy a home without an inspection because "they just had to have it" or "we were worried someone else would buy it".
His shows do have a lot of good info though.
I also like Property Brothers.
When is Timber Kings on? That looks really good and agreed, some of those homes look amazing.
I like just about all of them. Especially the ones where you get to see the person and/or crew doing the inspections, demo and fixes.
I even liked that one where they surprised a people with a total reno of a part of their house while they were out for dinner or a date with their significant other. I really wonder though how good is the work done to have been completed in such a short time.

I'd forgotten about that show - I used to watch it almost every night when my daughter was an infant and I was up feeding her in the middle of the night. I liked it. I dont' think there's many home reno shows that I don't like.
I like This Old House because the guys troubleshoot and fix interesting problems and actually somewhat teach me how to do things.
I like Baulmer but the only thing you learn from his show is how to mud drywall and how to lay tile but at least he is entertaining. I like Decked Out because the deck designs and landscaping are pretty amazing but you never learn anything new... How many times do I need to see how to install hidden fasteners. Rehab Addict is good because she does pretty amazing things with reused materials but she is bat #### crazy and can get on my nerves if I watch a couple of episodes in a row. Scott on Income Property is a pretty boy know it all and I find it hard to like him. Mike Holmes usually goes overboard and makes a big deal out of the smallest thing but I have learned a lot for him over the years.
My favorite, next to This Old House, is Flip This House (San Antonio, New Haven, Atlanta, LA). Scripted but still interesting.
Stay far far far away from Flipping Vegas... Flipping Boston is OK.
Reno Reality is about as close as you can get to Canada's Worst Handyman now that it's over. I'm no expert but these people do some stupid stuff. I'm sure there is an episode where someone dies that they can't air.
I Would love to see a show...that isn't Man Caves... that does high end Home Theaters. Is there one I don't know about?
