Multi-tool suggestions?
After a couple of situations over the weekend where I would've found a decent multi-tool useful, I figured I should get one to carry with me
I started looking around and came across Gerber's Bullrush. I figured it was simple and had a good grippy handle
But more research on the internet says many find the Leatherman multi-tools pretty good
Anyone else carry one around that they'd suggest getting?

I used to carry a leatherman but I ended up losing it. I didn't really get much use out of it. Biggest thing I need is a good screwdriver, which is pretty rare in a multitool, so I just pop a couple multibit drivers into my bag, along with some small side cutters for zip ties and be done with it.

I have a Leatherman Wave which I thought would be useful, but I find I rarely use it. It seems well-made.

I rock the Leatherman Wingman: http://www.leatherman.com/831426.html.
Can't go a day without using it multiple times. It's relatively small and has a clip to go on your belt.

I have always found the Swiss Army Knife to be indispensable when working in the field.

For the two guys who recommended the Wave and Wingman, how did you find its handle?
I dont usually have a good grip on things so i need something with texture on it. I dont know if it's just from looking at the photos or its stainless steel material, but it looks like you can slip while handling it

I've had and lost a classic Leatherman and a Leatherman supertool. Both were excellent. I prefer them, as they have needlenose pliers, and I do a lot of electrical work so they were perfect. I have a Gerber but I don't like it near as much, the pliers are bulky and slide through the tool, it's clunky.
I've also left a Gerber clutch at airport security, That was a handy little piece that I would leave in my jacket for minor emergencies.

I've had the Wingman for a couple of years and have never dropped it with regular use. It is just stainless steel, though, so there isn't any grippy material.

It seems grippy enough. It fits in my hand quite well, so grip usually doesn't come in to play.

I used to have a Leatherman Sidekick that I carried around with me everywhere. Then I accidentally left it at a clients and one of their dishonest staff members kept it for themselves. I tried a couple of el-cheapo no name brands but they just weren't the same as my Sidekick. I'm used to not having one, but I would definitely get good usage out of it if I went and picked up another.

I have a brand new Leatherman Surge with the leather sheath somewhere in my house. It's an extremely well built tool, I just got it as a bonus item when I purchased a tent and sleeping bag and never got around to using it. If I come across it soon, I'd be more than happy to give you a deal on it if you're interested.

I have a Leatherman Wave that I used for years while working in the field. It's very well-made and has never let me down, although I did manage to break off the slotted screwdriver while cleaning out someone's basement after the flood last year. I've had the thing since 1997 so I can't really complain - it's seen a LOT of use. Yes it's all stainless and there isn't any real texturing on the handles, but I've never had a problem with it slipping in my hand at all.

Another vote for the Leatherman. Only drawback is the knife dulls easily.

Good testimonies, Thanks guys. I'll look at more of the leatherman models. Wave might be a bit bulky to carry around in my pocket but the Wingman and others sound good
With the grips, i was thinking there'd be some texture or scoring on the metal surface for grip.
Thanks for the offer Schultzie but I prefer to get a type that suits me

Grip is not a huge issue with the leatherman because they flip open, so you are squezing against the open part of the handle, not the smooth case. It's fine for regular use, but if you really need to squeeze hard it can be slightly uncomfortable. Try it in store and you'll see what I mean.
I find the plastic grips on these sorts of tools just add unnesessary bulk. I like the smooth leatherman, slides in and out of the pocket easily.
