Default New Matrix trilogy in the works?

Always been a big fan of the series, well not the third, but the first two were great. Would love to see something come out in the universe, plenty to explore.

Why why why why why.

The first one was a cool bit of Sci-Fi, really liked it. The 2nd was garbage, the 3rd was hot garbage.

Don't know how anyone could hate the Matrix movies. Pure entertainment fun, although the third didn't have enough time "plugged in" for people's liking. That being said, it would be great to see them redeem the last movie and put out something that takes advantage of new technology and visuals. I just hope it has some of that mystery from the first, and no clone armies.. If the characters and storyline are completely separate, yet based in the same universe, then I'm on board with this. It is a fricking cool universe, after all.

Needed more Monica Bellucci.

I agree, they were all entertaining movies, though the 2nd and 3rd didn't really live up to the expectations, I don't know how it could have been written any better.
Do I feel the movies were a waste of my money to see? No. Do they stand up well over time? Yes. Are they still better than the majority of sci-fi that has been released since? Yes. They are still probably the most original package of sci-fi movies to come out of Hollywood in a long time.

What do you expect a bunch of people on the verge of being wiped off the face of the earth by machines to do?

Of course they're gonna party like it's 5000 BC.

Probably gonna be a prequel or some BS. I hate how old ideas are rehashed over and over and over in hollywood.

First one is one of my favourite films.

I didn't like 2 and 3 that much in theatres. But I watched all 3 in succession after they came out on DVD and found it quite good as a whole. Also the Animatrix was just awesome. There's enough material to work with to potentially make some good movies.

Also, what a strange source for the article lol

Agreed with this, but it has more to do with the imagination and interpretation of The Matrix universe from each director in that series rather than having much to do with the source material.

But seriously, doing another Matrix trilogy at this point? One question remains…

Probably because Hollywood is incapable of developing new ideas, and even when they do they often fail to bring in an audience (see Cloud Atlas). That and the money thing of course.

The Wachowski's careers haven't exactly taken off since the Matrix, and they probably think they need to go back to the well to turn their careers around. Who knows if that will even work considering the last two Matrix weren't exactly smash hits at the box office.

The last 2 suffered from horrible horrible writing. The architect scene, the Mobil ave scene, rooftop agent smith fight, Zion battle, Neo stopping the machines in reality all were terribly written. There were people like Neo before, a whole bunch of them, but he's also Jesus, only one Smith fights him and the series ends with a prophet and a little girl on a bench admiring the sun. It was like they had ideas for hidden messages then completely botched all of them. No more please, I can't handle something so pretentious yet so horribly wrong. Like a high school kid using the synonym tool way too much

I was one of the handful of people that loved the entire franchise. I even played the video games to get as much of the story as possible. I took the entirety of the Matrix media into account as a whole rather than segment and contrast/compare (like between the movies).

As long as this isn't a remake I am very excited for it. I would love to know more of the story.

the game was actually really fun, the animatrix had a lot of high points with much better writing. Don't know how you could like the 2 sequels though, just could not handle the story purely because they had such an interesting world to work with and turned it into seeing how convoluted they could make the characters.

That being said, can you tell us something interesting about the sequels? Why was Neo able to stop the machines? Was their world real? What was with the sun at the end looking weird? Was there any underlying ideas? I didn't get how Neo was like Jesus but there were many predecessors, is there a point to that or were they just high when they wrote it? Also, the Zion battle is irreconcilably bad.

I don't know if there is really one true answer to this question, and it's a part of the movies a lot of people took issue with. It's clear that Neo is an anomaly, a glitch of sorts in his own right...a glitch that the machines could not fully account for or correct. I was always satisfied in thinking he was a product of two worlds, granting him the ability to see code in and out of the Matrix and control something along the lines of an EMP pulse.

People always want an explanation, but remember how outraged fans were when the "Force" was essentially explained as an odd bacteria?

Quote:
Was their world real?
I've never heard any theories on the real world being an illusion so I have no basis to answer this question.

Can't say I ever noticed this or read anything on it, so again I have nothing to offer.

Apart from a plethora of religious and literary allusions, nope.

Quote:

That's an equation we filled in from cultural familiarity. The filmmakers helped it along, especially with the imagery of his death. Assuming Neo is a glitch, it is safe to assume that they reoccur. Knowing this the machines constructed a contingency plan (destroying Zion and presenting "the glitch/the one" with a choice), but had underestimated free will and emotion just enough that finally an incarnation defied logic.

Sticking with the Jesus analogy, how many saviors in how many different mystery religions existed before and after Christ? Without knowing for sure, I'm going to say a lot...although it only took one to change the world.

Not how I saw it, but I respect your taste/opinion.

I wouldn't worry about it, latino review is the Ecklund of the sci-fi movie news.

A Matrix TV Series would be better. We have already seen the movies.
