Default Finland vs. Canada, Mens Hockey at 10 AM Mountain

vs

Finland vs Canada

This should be a great game since Finland has a good chunk
of NHL players on its roster. It will be interesting to see who is
net for both countries. Too bad Kipper retired.
Update: from the Olympic ticker, Price will start for Canada
which means Loserongo is on the bench. Yay!

In Canada, game is on the CBC in english and TVA in french.
In the states, it's on the USA Network. The game is available
online from the CBC, SRC, and NBC Olympic websites. It is
also on various radio stations from the TSN radio network.

Barkov injured, won't play at all anymore.

Finland has lost Filppula, M. Koivu, S. Koivu didn't come & Barkov now. 4 potential #1 centers, this ain't fun.

Damn, Canada's games are always taking place while I'm at work. Selfishly hoping we get an earlier game or two in the knockout stages.

Canada has lost in round robin each Olympics since 2002. Wonder if this will be their bump in the road.

For some reason, they seem to do better facing a bit of adversity early on.

I don't understand how Kunitz slots in ahead of St. Louis, especially when they split him off Sid's line. Not like he's had a very good tournament so far.

I had a feeling they decided on Price before the tourney started. Unless he bombed in his first game he was going to start today. Luongo is good insurance, hope they don't need him. Subban was an easy call, the defence is already loaded with offensive players and his defensive game is too spotty to need him at this point. St. Louis was a bit of a surprise, hope Kunitz picks it up today.

Thank goodness Price is starting whether or not the coaching staff decided prior to the Olympics. Don't trust Loserongo at all, the guy's bad insurance. Don't mind if Subban plays or not because Price knows his habits.

I don't think the PBP guy is that bad. He knows his stuff decently. Just needs to take the word "nil" out of his vocabulary.

The 1st period is over in both games. The americans are up 2-0 over Slovenia and it is 0-0 Russia-Slovakia.

That Loserongo thing isn't funny man, you sound like a tool even when it isn't Olympics and now it's worse because he's on our team. It's team Canada for now there are no flames oilers or canucks until they hand out the medals, get behind everyone on the squad or GTFO. I wish they'd scratched Kunitz but since they didn't I hope he scores 5 goals.

I disagree with every one of those lineup moves, incidentally. I don't mind Price in net but would not have scratched either of Marty or PK.

Yes, forget the biases for 2 weeks of your lives.

I personally don't love any of the 3 moves but the one I'm most adamant about is Kunitz staying in, especially if he's not going to stay on Crosby's line. All things being equal (i.e. no Crosby chemistry), St. Louis is the better player by a landslide.

What's at stake:

Unless Canada loses by more than five goals or Finland loses by more than six goals, both teams get a bye to the 2nd round. Firewagon hockey isn't really in the cards.
-> Assuming that neither of scenarios happens (and Norway doesn't pull off their own Miracle On Ice), the loser of this game will play Russia in the 2nd round.

-> If the game ends in regulation, the winner will be the best team of the preliminary round, and will realistically play either the winner of Slovenia-Austria or Slovakia in the 2nd round (with an outside chance of playing Latvia).

If the game doesn't end in regulation, the winner of this game will be the 3rd best team of the preliminary round behind Sweden and US, and will presumably play Switzerland (with an outside chance of meeting Czech).

It's really too bad. It was a great story to have both the youngest (Barkov) and oldest player (Selanne) in the Olympics for hockey.

I really hope they can pull through and medal still.
