Default Pebble Smartwatch

I ordered a Pebble Smartwatch as a Christmas gift to myself!

Does anyone on CP have one? Any tips and tricks to share?

If anyone's curious. here's a guide to getting started with a Pebble.
https://blog.getpebble.com/2013/12/2...y-office-hour/

Also, I created a Flames-themed watchface:

I think the Pebble will be a nice addition to my Nexus smartphone. The Pebble isn't too expensive, but it seems to be functional enough for my needs.

I got one through the original Kickstarter campaign, so I have been using it for 6+ months.

Get a screen protector. The screen is good, but protectors are cheap and I would rather that get a blemish than the screen. Better safe than sorry.

I have the volume turned off on my phone almost always. The vibration on my wrist is the only notification I use.

I use Pebble Notifier to choose which notifications I want passed to the watch. Anything that puts a notification can now be passed to the phone.

There are supposed to be some fairly significant changes coming soon - an official store, a major firmware upgrade. Just keep an eye out and you will see it when they are available.

So far, it's great! I wish the backlight were a bit more powerful, but otherwise it's wonderful! I really like just needing a quick glance down at my wrist to review texts and emails. For a first generation product, it's rather nice!

Just got a black one for $140 from Future Shop - they were on sale 2 weeks ago.

Working perfectly so far. Love the minimalism approach. It does not have many bells and whistles but whatever it can do it does well. And the battery easily last 5 days per charge.

Hard to believe Pebble is still pretty much the choice when it comes to smart watches even in the face of fierce competitions from giants like Sony and Samsung. Now that I have been using it daily for about 10 days, I don't think I can go back again to the old way of having to dig out my phone every time it rings.

Eager to see what Motorola and Google can come up with later this year!

Odd I missed this thread. I got the Pebble with the kickstarter a year ago. The first watch only lasted about 4 months and I had to RMA it. The screen was blotchy and had a flashing tick to the screen. No issues @ all with returning it though. They just wanted some pictures/video of it doing it and sent me a new one.

Here are my thoughts on having it so far.
#1 - Get the screen protector. The glass does scratch. Not super easy, but it is a little dissapointing when it happens. It happend on my first watch - put the protector on my replacement.

#2 - The Version 2 of the Firmware/Phone app (Android only, cant speak for iOS) was and is pretty crappy. It was released too soon/not ready fast enough. The features in version 2 were what was promised in the Kickstarter. It took too long to come out, and when it did, it was buggy as hell. It has been getting better, but now their is competition for the watch.

#3 - It's a pretty cool conversation piece. People are constantly asking me about it, although they think its the Gear watch (Samsung). I find it incredibly handy to check my texts, emails, call display from my wrist. People laugh at the idea, but if I am having dinner, in a work meeting, snoozing on the couch with my kid - it saves me reaching for my phone and being disruptive/rude.

I also use it as a OSD for my bluetooth music in the car so I can see whos playing and skip songs if needed.

For what I paid (and im not a watch guy @ all) I am extremely happy with it. The battery lasts about a week - the quality of the watch itself is good. The strap is pretty cheap but easily replaced. I think when/if they come out with a 2nd generation of the watch I would grab the Steel model, as it is pretty slick looking as well.

Agreed. The Steel looks pretty sweet but I decided to wait for a second generation before spending on that. Personally I think the non-steel one is pretty ugly, but it's so useful that I wear it anyway. No point pulling out my phone to see that the email I just received was spam Or when I'm walking to work I can leave the phone in my jacket pocket and still pause my music or skip songs.

The only issue I have with it is that I have to keep restarting the Pebble app on my phone in order to get the weather or stock updates to work. Seems like it gets dumped out of memory on the phone if I open a few other apps (or one specific app that is a memory hog).

lol, it looks like you can see your arm hair through the watch (because of the skate marks in the ice in your wallpaper).

I would love to be able to read hangouts/text messages through my watch.

Pebble does that easily. I actually turned off Hangout notifications as I found it to be too much info. Stupid watch was going off every 3 minutes and killing that battery.

For all you custom phone peeps with Pebble, do you notice that CM11 keeps breaking the BT connection between the 2?

Big bump - Pebble is releasing their next iteration - Pebble Time - through Kickstarter.

$4.8 Million raised in the first 4 hours.

They are trying to be ready to take on Apple and the next version of Android Wear.

Interesting. I like that it is color e-paper, 20% thinner and that you can use standard 22mm watch bands now. But that bezel is ugly, I much prefer the look of my Pebble Steel. I think I'm going to wait for the Pebble Time Steel

Up to $17,115,640 pledged with 18 days to go.

I may get one just to see how well it works.

I think a lot of people are going to be disappointed by the battery life. That 18 hours is "mixed use", so in some cases it won't last that long. Are people going to carry around an extra charging cable for their watch?

When my pebble alerts me it is down to 15% free, I know I still have hours left. And a full charge only takes something like an hour.
