Default Russian ambassador wishes Team Canada ‘failure’ at Olympics

http://www.calgarysun.com/2013/12/07...re-at-olympics

If they continue to put players from the KHL in the line up over NHL players because of politics they might have a some problems in this tournament.

I look forward to the looks of dejection on the faces of the Russian team and their fans.

I hate the Russian hockey players so much. Especially at the WJC. Can't stand those cocky 17 year old d-bags. That said, I think this was said all in good fun. Go Canada Go.

No idea what to expect from the Russians, but I imagine playing at home will pump them up.

Best part of that youtube clip is that it's the Olympic feed. Was expecting to hear 'I Believe' 2987 times.

Journalism. Take something, put it out of context a bit, and you have a headline.

Don't really expect anything different. I just hope the Russians don't go as far as causing a ref controversy like the one in 2002 women's match in Salt Lake. I wouldn't put it past them.

However if they win, or make it further than Canada I don't mind at all (as long as it's fair). And it might be nice to see them win in front of their country. Not as nice as a Canada gold, but you know what I mean. I just hope for good clean competitive matches.

Good. I hope the Canada Russia hockey animosity heats up. It would be awesome to watch.

Honestly I probably enjoyed the hammering of the Russians just as much as winning the gold. Whenever I feel that the rivalry is waning, games like that remind me of how much I want to destroy them.

I just hope our players don't come down with a "mysterious illness"

I would expect any politician of any country wish failure for the favored opposition.

It's what makes sports so awesome. I'd hope our leaders would say the same thing if the Russians were a clear favorite walking onto our home soil during the olympics.

This Rivalry could potentially take a huge leap forward this year. Looking forward to it.

Its all NHL officials for the games.....there wont be nonsense like that SLC debacle.

As for the original sentiment of the Russian official...good! Why shouldnt he want Canada to fail at the Olympics against his country? Only makes sense. I am sure if you asked the Canadian ambassodor to Russia who he is cheering for...he may just answer Canada and hopes it comes at the failure of the Russians.

Its called a rivalry.

Whatever. I wish for Russia to continue being a dysfunctional parody of a civilized country.

We'll see which one of us gets what they want.
