Nelson Mandela passes away
South African president Jacob Zuma is announcing this to the media right now.
Quite a long life for all he's gone through.
Thoughts and prayers.

Wow. It was just a matter of time, but I'm still a little shocked.

Sad.
He could teach a thing or two about forgiveness and reconciliation.
I know that I would not have been as forgiving as he was.
There are some in SA that think only respect of Mandela was keeping the ANC in check.
Hopefully this doe not have a detrimental effect on South Africa.

Mandela was an example of what humanity truly can be. Well done, Madiba.

I have a South African friend who was worried about violence following his death. Hopefully it does not go that way.
Apparently there are quite a few conspiracy theories in SA that have a lot of momentum. Look up "Night of the Long Knives" in South Africa if interested.

Sad day. "Long Walk to Freedom" is one of the most incredible and powerful books I have ever read. A truly great man.

Can't really add anything except that I agree his strength, influence, importance, and humanity, are that which we rarely see, and yet all should aspire to.
We have known he was on the doorstep for a while now, but it's still sad to see him go.
