2013 WESTERN FINAL : Riders vs STAMPEDERS
GAME TIME : Sunday, November 17th at 2:30pm McMahon Stadium
TELEVISED : TSN and NBCSN(tape delay)
It should be a good game on Sunday. The last time the two played each other at McMahon Stadium, Stamps defeated the Riders 29-25. During the game Cornish proved who's really the #1 RB in the CFL while Kory Sheets who claimed he is the best in the league was pouting on the sidelines and fought with their Offensive Coordinator George Cortez. Also, at the end of the game DB Dwight Anderson claimed that they will beat the Stampeders in the Western Final and he even said 'Calgary sucks!'. Okay, Dwight put your money where your mouth.
In 3 games this season between the two teams, Calgary won both games at McMahon Stadium 42-27 in Week 7 and 29-25 in Week 18. Riders on the other hand won the only game in Regina 36-21 in Week 2.
OFFENSE:
Most Outstanding Player of the Year and Canadian Player of the Year Finalist RB Jon Cornish did not play the whole game on Week 18. Cornish won the rushing title but did not beat Willie Burden's franchise record as he got a slight injury on the 3rd quarter. Cornish is healthy and planning to play the whole game. Cornish rushed 36 times for 326 yards with 5 rushing TDs in 3 games against the Riders this season.
QB Kevin Glenn will start for the Stampeders. Glenn struggled in the first quarter against BC Lions that prompted Coach Hufnagel to pulled him off the game early and replaced by Drew Tate then Bo Levi Mitchell. Glenn successfully connected on 32 for 45 passing attempts for 338 yards, 2 TD and 1 INT in 3 games against the Riders.
It looks like WR Maurice Price will take the injured Marquay McDaniel's spot as a Slotback on Sunday. Price caught 15 passes for 130 yards and no TD vs Riders this season. SB Jabari Arthur will playing on the other side of the field backing up by SB Brad Sinopli. WR Jeff Fuller and WR Joe West will be playing deep for the Stamps.
DEFENSE :
MLB Juwan Simpson will have to give DT Fred Bishop, Legare, Turner and rookie Earl Okine some help containing RB Kory Sheets and QB Darian Durant. Simpson had 14 tackles, 2 sacks and 1 forced fumbled against the Riders this season. Defensive Player of the Year Finalist and Sackmaster DE Charleston Hughes (12 tackles, 4 sacks and 1 forced fumbled vs Riders) will have to pressure Durant all game and not let him run around the way he did against BC Lions late in the game. DE Cordarro Law, third in the CFL QB sack race will be playing on the other side.
Secondary Derrius Brooks, Brandon Smith, Jonathan Hefney, Jamar Wall, LB/DB Keon Raymond and LB Deron Mayo will have to play against Weston Dressler, Geroy Simon, Chris Getzlaf and Taj Smith. Riders receiver makes an average QB Darian Durant looks like a top notch QB with their acrobatic catches.
SPECIAL TEAM :
Rain, Shine or Snow... Stampeders can always count on the Special Team Player of the Year Finalist Rene Paredes and Punter Rob Maver to do their job well. KR Larry Taylor had an up and down season but lately he's been playing well. I think he might break out vs Riders this Sunday.
************************************************** *
I am so pumped up about this game. People that I know who are Riders' fans started yapping and trash talking already. Hopefully Stampeders can help me shut them up.
GO STAMPS GO!!

Stamps fans and its not even close.
It just looks like there is more Riders fans there than there actually is because the Puke Green colour stands out like a bad stain.
Go Stamps!

There will be too much green, but McMahon will easily have at least 80% of the crowd wearing red. To suggest otherwise is stupid.

Still about 2000 tickets left (don't understand why but that's another story). Let's sell this out with red and shut those Riders up! So pumped for the game!

Once picked up a rider fan who was hitchiking to McMahon. I noticed that he only had one shoe so I said 'Hey, you lost a shoe!' 'No I didn't', he said with a big grin, 'I found one!' Gotta love rider fans... Go Stamps!

If you count the empty red seats as stamps fans then your probably right
Actually its about 2:1 stamps to rider fans. I perfer to call the stadium a christmas tree with the nice red and green.

How sweet would it be if both Calgary and Hamilton won tomorrow, thereby leaving all those Rider fans with the two most hated things in their universe to cheer for in the Grey Cup they are hosting?
The Stamps or Henry Burris. Which is the lesser of two evils for you melon heads?

I would prefer to see an empty seat at McMahon over one occupied by a Riderfan, even if I owned the team.

Really?
Riders fans usually take account for 15-20 percent of the fans at the game at most.

It's been 20 years since going to the 93 Western Final when it was -25 or even colder with the wind chill.
I think just over 20K people showed up, the weather was that disastrous. Not sure why we were either, but free tickets. Sleeping backs, hotpockets and a few blankets each to keep us warm.
The infamous game where the heaters broke on the Stamps sideline sometime in the 2nd quarter and Flutie's hands froze.
This was a big deal, the Stamps defending GC champs, and were 15-3 and Calgary was hosting the GC a week later.
It clear why Getzlaf is coming back, to draw a few PI calls as he and the Riders always seem to get. Hopefully the refs stay out of the decision of the game (a rarity it seems, more and more), and as long as the Stamps play the same smart ball control game they have all year, moving the ball with Cornish and the numerous excellent receivers they have, and limit the turnovers, should be victory.
The weather shouldn't be that great as far as temp, but I think the field should be clear.
As T99, hoping the Ti-Cats can get out of the East. Tickets will be picked up for pennies on the dollar from the large section of Rider fans who are the loud obnoxious types.

Yeah, it's one of my pet-peeves that whenever TSN does crowd-shots of the Stamps/Riders games, they only show the areas that have the most Riders fans, making it look like it's about 50/50. But anyone who's been to those games (or is just watching the background shots during the rest of the TSN telecast) knows it's nowhere near 50/50. And good on the Riders to have the best visiting team presence of any team in the CFL, but TSN's desire to pander to pander to that audience is really pathetic.

In that scenario I would "cheer" for Calgary... But only because I know a few of the Stamps. So I'd still "cheer" for Calgary if they were to play Toronto.

Well fu-kwad i am a stamps fan who doesnt live in Calgary. When the weather stinks only the most passionate fans will show up. riders fans tend to be passionate.
It was an honest question.

There is an amazing deal if anyone is on the fence about going to the game tomorrow.
4 tickets, and $20 in "Stamps Bucks" for just $40. It's an alcohol free section, but amazing value

It may have been an honest question, and my response was an honest answer.
Your statement that "Rider fans tend to be more passionate" is an urban myth self-promoted shamelessly by Rider fans. There will be more than 25,000 passionate Stampeders fans sitting in the cold come Sunday, accompanied by a maximum of 5,000 passionate fans in green who made the conscious decision that their lives would be better residing here in our fair city of Calgary.
Therefore, clearly those wearing red tomorrow are the truly passionate fans.

If anyone gets this deal but isn't using all four tickets, I may be interested in picking up an extra or two.

In reality they all left that god forsaken hell hole long ago to live here long ago.
