As Fanfest and training camp are just around the corner, I thought it was time for this season's thread.

The Stamps had a conference call this morning, here are some highlights:

Doubtful... he seems to be the Stampeders version of Buck Pierce.

Yeah, quite possible.

If he does get injured, hopefully Mitchell does enough to bypass Glenn on the depth chart then.

IMO Mitchell is he best QB the Stamps have.

Has the camp schedule been released yet?

Hard to believe that in an 8 team league you can have a team with a QB depth chart like the Stamps and another one like the Bombers with no offseason deal being made. Maybe Huff is waiting for the second quarter of week 1 when Pierce goes down to drive up the price for Glenn.

News bulletin from Calgary Stampeders training camp . . . slotback Nik Lewis wants the world to know he made a mistake.
A huge one, in fact, when it came to formulating a first impression of Jon Cornish.
“I actually said we should trade him before anyone else saw him in that first training camp,” a soaking wet Lewis was saying after yet another practice in the driving rain at McMahon Stadium. “I didn’t think he was good at all. I thought he was horrible.
“I said, ‘maybe we should trade him for somebody really good before our pre-season game, before anybody else can see him.’
“And I was wrong.”

Coming off such a dominant season, Cornish insists it’s business as usual as he prepares for the 2013 campaign.
“Nothing changes,” he said. “I’m not one to congratulate myself or anything.”
Truth be told, Cornish sees the 2012 season as solid but not spectacular — especially given the Stampeders failed to get it done in the championship game against Toronto.
“I wanted to win the Grey Cup,” he said. “Had we won the Grey Cup, I would have gone to Disney World. But we didn’t, so I couldn’t go to Disney World.”

In truth, the New Westminster, B.C. native already has his game face on. He politely declines to put numbers on his goals for the year, only saying he would like to contribute more catching the ball out of the backfield and better control his emotions between the lines.
“I felt like I ended last season with four or five games left in me,” Cornish said. “So I’ve been itching to get back on the field.”

Heading into his seventh season with Cornish as a teammate, Lewis is no longer surprised by his tailback.
“I’m glad they didn’t trade him,” Lewis said. ”He gives us such great balance in our offence.
“I’m just looking forward to seeing him bust out those big runs again and doing my part to block for him.”

They’re flat-out expecting Mo.
Mo catches. Mo yards. Mo touchdowns. Mo jaw-dropping, heart-palpitating, mesmerizing moments of mercurial magic.
“Man, this is all new to me,” Maurice Price confesses. “I’ve never really been in this position before. Even going into the season as a starter is different for me. So I’m not taking anything for granted.
“It’s humbling.
“I’m the type of guy who gets motivated by compliments, praise, whatever. I’ve been like that all my life. I don’t live my life proving people wrong. I want to prove them right.”

Price, quite simply, appears to have the lot to succeed up here. Decent size (6-foot-1). A set of artisan’s hands. Enviable football IQ. Warp-drive speed that’d put Capt. James T. Kirk’s Starship Enterprise in dry dock (he runs a 4.29 40). A willingness to work (Price couldn’t walk in the early days after last year’s ankle derailment, so to keep sharp he’d perch on a chair off to the side of the field and have quarterbacks throw 100 or more balls for him to catch).
And, most enticingly, an innate penchant for the big-play; an ability to turn burlap into gossamer.
His 56-yard catch-and-run in the driving snow against Hamilton on Oct. 20, firing through two defenders and breaking a tackle before leaving Ticats safety Dee Webb in his powdery wake to score his first CFL TD was just one example.

That potential, the great unknown, is what has people so giddy. But with such heightened expectations, there is always a cautionary sense of danger.

“Mo and I already talked about that,” says receivers’ coach Pete Costanza. “Don’t go putting extra pressure on yourself, thinking ‘I had so many yards over so many games last year’ and try to project that over a season. Don’t get caught up in the numbers. The way our offence works is that one week Nik (Lewis) might catch eight, 10 balls, next week Mo might catch five. So when your opportunities come, make plays. But if you expect to go out with a certain catch-count in your head . . . well, it’s just not realistic with five guys in the game and distributing the ball around.
“I think he’ll be fine, productive, have a good year. I know when the ball’s thrown to him, Mo’ll do something awfully good with it.
“He’s grounded in what we do right from the start. So now he can just play fast, let his ability shine.”

One thing I would love to see is Cornish, Harris, and some of the other good Canadian RBs just called running backs. Who cares where they are from. Cornish and Harris especially deserve that and in my opinion the biggest honor people can give them is to simply call them running backs.

Excited to see what Mo Price can do over 18 games -- he's a guy with NFL talent (4.29?!?) that should stretch the field and open things up for Cornish on the ground and Lewis underneath. With a good season, I wouldn't be surprised to see him get another look in the NFL next year.

I'm hoping to see an explosive offense with younger, faster receivers and Dickenson hopefully hitting his stride as a playcaller. Would be nice to see Tate stay healthy although I feel no team in the league is better set at the backup position as Glenn and BLM could probably start on some teams.

yea, he was basically told he wouldn't get one of the three spots so they reccomended he try out for reciever. Tate, Glenn, BLM <- hard to break through even if he is a good qb, he is young still. Nice to see him do well at receiver but I would've liked to see him get a better crack at the QB spot, at least this way they can protect him easier in the expansion draft. Ottawa will probably take one of Calgary's qbs anyways (hopefully not BLM)

Yes he is a QB that must have realized he wasn't going to get a chance at QB with the Stamps.

Lewis looking like he wants to play on the O line. Holy crap is he huge.

Parker needs to take a significant step this year, especially with Franklin gone and now with Bauman hurt.
